Eight (and '80s Week) is enough! Dancing with the Stars trims down to seven couples. Did we lose a top contender for the third week running? Find out below!
Brooke is rockin' some Cowardly Lion curls, am I right? I think I prefer yesterday's shoulder-padded Dynasty glory.
Instead of an encore, Len spends a few breaths commenting on the past two weeks' premature eliminations. Season 13 is crazy because he fancied Kristin and Chynna in the final, and apparently so did a lot of fans who complained to him about their ousters. OK, maybe some people penciled in Chynna, but seriously, who legitimately thought Kristin was gonna be there? All those people she told in the premiere not to think of her as a bitch? Len says he tells those fans they can't complain if they didn't vote: "Don't moan if you don't phone." I'm pretty sure that's a slogan for a phone sex company somewhere.
Ricki and Derek, and Hope and Maks are the first two couples up, and the whole thing is made 10 times more awkward when they air a disheartened Hope crying in the hall last night because she thinks nothing she does is good enough. Maks' perfunctory pep talk doesn't help matters. They're totally going to be one of the final two standing later... if not the ones leaving.
First safe couple:
Ricki and Derek
Hope and Maks are in jeopardy.
After Tom tries to woo Kelly Clarkson to join the show next season (Dancing Idol?), it's time to break out the Kleenex for the Spotlight Performance. This week's inspirational story is Charm Ladonna, who emerged from Compton, Calif., to dance on tour with Madonna. She used her tour paycheck to pay her way through college and now volunteers at her elementary school. Great story, but my favorite Compton successes are Venus and Serena Williams. Tennis FTW!
The top three pairs hit the stage next. It's weird to think of David as one of the top-scoring couples, but I guess someone has to be as we whittle down. Plus, I'd give him three 10s for that awesome Len impression.
Next two safe couples:
J.R. and Karina
Rob and Cheryl
David and Kym are in jeopardy.
Following a Kelly encore, the bottom-dwellers learn their fates.
Next two safe couples:
Chaz and Lacey
Nancy and Tristan
Carson and Anna join Hope and Maks, and Carson and Anna under the Red Light of Doom. David and Kym are safe, but Hope and Maks and Carson and Anna are not necessarily the bottom two.
And the couple leaving is... Carson and Anna.
Carson thanks the fans, the whole crew, cast and the judges. "This has been pure joy for me," he says.
"The ultimate injustice for me," Tom says without missing a beat, "one week shy of Broadway Week!"
The show really will not be the same without Carson (and the awesomeness that is Anna), but this was the right choice. Good job, America! The entertainment factor can only carry you so far if you don't actually improve. You've got to give the guy extra props, though, for stepping in in literally the last minute after Ryan O'Neal dropped out because of a bum knee. (Yeah, I'm glad we didn't get Ryan and Anna either. Shudder.)
So now that Carson has been relieved of his dancing duties, can we vote him as new co-host? Or at least new DanceCenter panelist? Pretty please?
So that's that. What did you think? Did the right person go home? Should Carson find a permanent gig on the show? Can Hope get it together? Should Kelly do Dancing? Will David and Kym stop speaking in British accents? Should you not moan if you don't phone? Who's your current pick to win?
