On last night's "Dance to the Music of the Movies" episode, Rob turned into a superhero, Chynna had a breakdown, Carson channeled a creepy pirate, and Ricki wowed the judges. But will America vote for those with the highest scores, or will this turn into a high school popularity contest? Let's find out!
To recap, here are last night's scores:
Ricki and Derek — 29
J.R. & Karina — 26
Rob & Cheryl — 24
Hope & Maks — 24
David & Kim — 23
Chynna & Tony — 21
Nancy & Tristan — 21
Chaz & Lacey — 21
Carson & Anna — 20
We usher in the results show with a performance by Britain's Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle. She's here to promote her new album, Someone to Watch Over Me, and gives a sleepy, yet passionate rendition of Unchained Melody. It likely won't help record sales because people don't pay for music anymore, but it was nice to see Susan back in the spotlight.
Why those two-hour reality shows are here to stay
But let's get to the results. The judges were not alone in awarding Ricki and Derek a near-perfect score. America gave them enough votes so that they're the first couple safe from elimination. J.R. and Karina's Pink Panther performance saves them, but Rob and Cheryl are in jeopardy, despite ranking in the top three. The audience howls and boos upon hearing this news.
Next, we have a backstage chat with Chynna Phillips, who we recently (and incorrectly) deemed the front-runner. "I was born a fighter, and I'm gonna keep on fighting. Nothing's gonna stop me." But will she hold on for one more day? We'll soon find out.
Dancing's Maks: Hope is sex on a stick in a different way
We cut to a performance by former Dancing with the Stars winner Julianne Hough. It's her first time back in the ballroom in two and a half years and she's really excited to be here. Her first dance is a beautiful performance — she looks smoking hot and angelic at the same time. Which is usually not even possible.
But wait! Let's pause for a moment and kick off our Sunday shoes — it's Footloose! Blake Shelton provides the background jams, and upbeat line-dancing ensues. Hough and Footloose co-star Kenny Wormald have a country-meets-Grease's Danny Zuko/Sandy Olsen moment. After, Tom Bergeron thinks Hough is out of breath, but actually she's crying because it's emotional for her to be back!
More results: Chaz and Lacey once again defy the odds — they're safe. Joining them is Carson and Anna, leaving Chynna and Tony in the bottom.
The Hough siblings give a cutesy performance, but we haven't forgotten the task at hand here. Nancy and Tristan sink to the bottom with Chynna, Tony, Cheryl, and Rob. Ultimately Chynna and Tony are sent home. It seems America has not forgiven Chynna for her slip-up last night, even though she has been a consistently strong performer throughout the competition. Did you think it was Chynna's time to go?
Next week, we'll be breaking out our blue eyeshadow, side ponytails, and acid-washed Jordache jeans because IT'S '80S WEEK! Will you join us?
