Dancing with the Stars Episode Recap: Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010 Season 11, Episode 8

Dancing with the Stars' Acoustic Week wraps up with the fourth elimination of the season. Did The Situation make up for his abysmal score in votes? Plus: The Goo Goo Dolls and Florence + The Machine perform.

Hey, the recap package actually features the three couples on tap. Guess the field producer got a talking to. Opting not to create faux suspense for once, Tom names the first three (obviously) safe couples off the bat.

First three safe couples:
Audrina and Tony
Brandy and Maks
Jennifer and Derek

That, of course, frees up Jennifer and Derek to perform the encore — a deserved call for all the right reasons unlike last week's nomination of The Situation and Karina.
After the Goo Goo Dolls transports us back to the '90s  (why does Johnny Rzeznik never age?), Brooke chats with Kyle and Lacey, and Bristol and Mark backstage. Bristol calls out the judges for being "very harsh" since she thinks she's been improving every week, but the scores aren't reflecting that. As much as not being an entertainer has hurt her on the floor, you have to love that she doesn't stick with the polite script. Mark says she did great. "You just wanted to take your shirt off!" Kyle says. Speaking of shirtless-ness, remember when Len claimed he'd never be seen without his shirt on Monday? Yeah, he lied. Tom gleefully shows a bare-chested and (fake)-tattooed Len from DanceCenter. "I now know what to get you for Christmas — exercise equipment," Tom says.

Next round of results:
Kyle and Lacey are safe.
Bristol and Mark are in jeopardy.
Rick and Cheryl are safe.
Kurt and Anna are in jeopardy.

10 Outta Len
The ol' curmudgeon is, as usual, the last of the three amigos to hand out a 10. What do you have to do to get one? Well, getting through a routine amounts to a 4 (cue footage of Billy Ray Cyrus) and chemistry gets you a 7. A 9 from Len is a 10 from Bruno and Carrie Ann "virtually every time," he says. Truth. So a 10 from Len means equal parts technique, performance, personality and magic. Don't forget the glitter.

After a Macy's Stars of Dance routine by Forever Tango and an acoustic "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence + The Machine (the irony!), Brooke quizzes Florence and Corky, and The Sitch and Karina. Sitch does a Beavis and Butt-Head laugh and says he didn't think the judges' score of 4 was fair. He had a whole lot more to say in Monday's confessional: "They're hatin'. They're un-positive and didn't see the work that I put in and the progress I made this week. I'm done with it," he said before walking out of the confessional. Oh, Sitch! I refuse to watch Jersey Shore and had no real opinion of you before this, but your earnestness kinda, sorta won me over the past few weeks. But you're just not a good dancer. At all.

Next round of results:
Florence and Corky are safe.
The Situation and Karina are in jeopardy.

With 10 more minutes to kill, we get a dizzying celeb cam segment of a week in the life of a Dancing star. The most enlightening thing about this? Everyone smiles maniacally while they're spinning in formation. Back to the results. More vamping... and then a Situation pec dance! "How do you do that with your chest, man?" Tom asks. "That's amazing. Bruno just gave you a 10, by the way."

Next round of results:
Kurt and Anna are safe.

That leaves Bristol and Mark, and Sitch and Karina.

And the couple going home is... Sitch and Karina.

Unsurprising, and Sitch and Karina looked like they were expecting it. He says he was so upset Monday because he was committed to the show and improving. "I told myself if I got eliminated today, I put it on all on the floor last night, so I bow gracefully," he says. "I tried my best."

Tom tells him that he seems different here. "I give what is needed at the particular situation," Sitch says, adding that Jersey Shore only shows part of who he really is. On Dancing, "you get the whole Situation."

What do you think? Did The Situation deserve elimination? Can you do a pec dance? Who's going to get the first 10 from Len? Are you excited for TV theme week next week? When will Len strip down again? And who was pinching Tom's butt when he was hanging with the "scared group of spray-tan people"?
