Dancing with the Stars Episode Recap: Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010 Season 11, Episode 4

Dancing with the Stars' top 11 becomes the top 10. Plus: Michael Bolton fires back at Bruno, and the truth behind Boo-gate is revealed!

So that intro basically paints Michael as a goner, no? Stranger things have happened, but it's going to take a Herculean effort from his fans to keep him in the game while he's ranked six points lower than his next closest competitors.

First round of results:
Kyle and Lacey are safe, and they get the encore!
Brandy and Maks are still in jeopardy.

Tom calls Bruno out for his harsh critique of Michael. Bruno makes no apologies because he says his job is to critique and fans could vote to save the celebrities if they want. The kicker: He says the Tin Man could've done a better jive. Dude, no need to add insult to the injury you inflicted. Len shuts him down because he thinks the judges' job is to educate and encourage everyone. I am loving good cop Len! "As much as you think sometimes I can be a hard judge, I at least try to show some positive [critiques]," he says, adding that Bruno just fired "negative, negative, negative" comments at Michael. "And then to give the guy a 3!" Len continues. "I don't mind if you critique someone harshly, but please give them some encouragement too." I don't think it's been this heated in the ballroom since Erin and Maks' freestyle romp last season. And poor Michael, having to put on a slight smile as if he's all cool with it.

After a performance by Janelle Monae, Brooke grills some of the couples backstage. She asks Florence what she's going to do in Week 4 if she's going to "lock lips" with Len next week. They're going to "lock hips," she says. I just had a flash of Cocoon. Did you notice how everyone was miked this time so Brooke doesn't commit another (forget to) pass-the-mic faux pas? She kicks everyone out except Jennifer and Derek to address Boo-gate. It had nothing to do with Sarah Palin, people! They show unaired footage from Monday of the judges flashing their 8 paddles while the crowd boos and chants "Nine!" All three laugh and try to defend themselves as Tom sprints over to the audience to prep for his chat with Palin. So, nothing to do with her, but what impeccable timing, no? Palin is in the house again, but no leather jacket this time.

Next round of results:
Florence and Corky are safe.
Bristol and Mark are safe.
The Situation and Karina are still in jeopardy.
Audrina and Tony are safe.
Jennifer and Derek are safe.

Dancing Rituals
We get a quasi-illuminating package about preshow rituals and superstitions. There are the usual suspects: tossing a pigskin, playing the guitar, chowing down on cookies and cake. Derek, however, puts two pairs of socks in the fridge to keep them cool. Cheryl puts hand sanitizer under her pits, a tradition born from her childhood when she ran out of deodorant before a performance one time. And Corky? He smells the floor to give it his aura. Well, I mean, who doesn't?

After performances from the Macy's Stars of Dance and Seal, and a non-threatening "I'm competitive" package, the remaining four couples hit the stage.

Next round of results:
Kurt and Anna are safe.
Margaret and Louis are safe.

Michael and Chelsie, and Rick and Cheryl are left in jeopardy; the former, likely because they are, and the latter, well, they need to fill up time. Brooke chats with Michael briefly backstage. He says he feels good and loves the whole cast and crew — the usual platitudes. But then! "I think last night Bruno was inappropriate and disrespectful," he says. Oh, snap! The dog's still got some bite! Bruno tries to laugh it off and playfully slaps his hand. You know Len is dying to give him a good ol' spanking.

Final round of results:
Rick and Cheryl are safe.
Brandy and Maks are safe.

That leaves The Sitch and Karina, and Michael and Chelsie in jeopardy — notice they didn't say bottom two.

And the couple leaving is ... Michael and Chelsie!

Michael says he's surprised and disappointed to be standing there and loves the camaraderie among the cast members. Chelsie calls him a genuine person.

Sad, but not unexpected. For a musician, Michael had little to no rhythm, and his performance last night was terrible. Bruno's comments didn't help matters. It's unfortunate that they spoon-fed him the opportunity to apologize to Michael, but he didn't. Now he's probably too proud to — at least publicly.

What did you think? Did the right person get the boot? Will Bruno and Michael kiss and make up? Are you glad you finally have the answer to Boo-gate? Will Florence and Len lock lips, then hips? Have you ever used hand sanitizer as a deodorant substitute? Do you smell the floor to give it your aura, too?
