Dancing with the Stars Episode Recap: Tuesday, May 4, 2010 Season 10, Episode 13

The top six gets reduced to five on Dancing with the Stars on one celebrity's birthday. Was there a lot for this aspiring dancer to celebrate? Find out below! Plus, Melissa Rycroft and Priscilla Presley return to the ballroom!

With the scores so tight — five points separating first from last — we could be in for some shocking results, Tom says. And we get a stunner right away. Nicole and Derek and Erin and Maks are called to the front first. The first couple is safe, but Erin and Maks are in the bottom two.

It's Erin's birthday, but it's shaping up to be a bad day— and not just because she's a step closer to elimination. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said on The View that Erin's stalker should've waited until Erin was on the show to check her out in skimpy outfits so he would avoid jail time. One, how insensitive, and two, has she never seen Edyta's outfits? Needless to say, the Dancing gang has already come down hard on E.H. on Twitter. Be sure to check back later this week for Maks' blog for more of his thoughts.

Len recaps the performances and throws in some rather disturbing hip action. As my Friend Phoebe Buffay would say, "My eyes! My eyes!" Though he gives Evan a "good on ya, son," it's Team Gaga who gets the encore for their cha-cha — with one change. Chelsie subs in for Pam, who hurt her leg and has been ordered not to aggravate it for the day.

Train hits the stage to croon "Hey, Soul Sister," which, Brooke tells us, has eclipsed 3 million copies in sales. Never underestimate the power of rhyming "sister" with Mr. Mister! I personally think the best part of this performance is that Train can avenge the abysmal caterwauling that was the Dancing band's cover last month. On the floor are Dmitry, Lacey, Tony, Cheryl, Chelsie and Mark, whose bum knee is apparently all healed up now.

The remaining male stars, Evan and Chad, learn their fates. The former is safe, the latter still in jeopardy.

Backstage, Brooke quizzes Pam about her leg injury and proceeds to show off more of her inadequate live interviewing skills. To Niecy: "You're at the bottom of the leader board, so [longest pause ever] are you concerned about making it through tonight?" Seriously, how hard is this job? Louis tells Niecy if she took off her clothes in the beginning, they wouldn't have the lowest score. Brooke asks: What is it going to take to win the Mirrorball? "A wardrobe malfunction," Niecy replies. To which Tom quips: "Although if you plan it weeks ahead of time, is it really a malfunction?"

Next up, the pros discuss crunch time as we get closer to the finale. It's the usual logrolling about intense pressure, excitement ... until Maks says people only remember the winners and not the ones who finish second. Um, tell that to the Mel and Maks fans, not to mention the Gilles and Cheryl fans.

Next safe couple:
Niecy and Louis

That means Pam and Damian are still in jeopardy.

Melissa Rycroft's Dancing Jobs
The Season 8 alum spends a day performing a variety of on-set jobs. She starts as production assistant (during which Tom does his best spit-take after she delivers a late coffee), then goes to conductor, hair and makeup (blow-drying Chad's scalp), stage manager, director and ends the day, apparently, scrubbing toilets. Melissa is a natural in front of the camera. Remind me again why she's not co-host.

Priscilla Presley is back — as a spectator. Doesn't it feel like it's ages since Season 6? She's in the house to watch the Macy's Stars of Dance tribute to Elvis by the Cirque de Soleil crew. How totally groovy are those costumes? Train, accompanied by Louis and Karina, follows to perform "Drops of Jupiter." I love this purely for the deep-fried chicken and freeze-dried romance lyrics. My only copy of this tune is on a CD my friend burned as a birthday party favor, and she downloaded it using Napster. Remember Napster? So 2001!

Next safe couple:
Chad and Cheryl

That leaves Pam and Damian are in the bottom two for the third time this season.

And the couple going home is ... Pam and Damian.

So the third time was not the charm (or was, depending on how you look at it). Bummed for Pam, but it was kind of expected since she wasn't that impressive and has already survived elimination twice. Still, she's been a joy to watch. She says Dancing has been one of the best experiences of her life and thanks Damian. Tom shares that the show had been pursuing Pam since the first season and he's glad she finally did it. "You turned me into a 12-year-old boy every week," he says. "The double-entendre count is going to drop dramatically."

Next week: Two individual routines — and the "through the eras" theme is back.

What do you think? Was Pam the correct choice? Were you shocked that Erin was in the bottom two? How do we get Melissa a permanent job on the show? Why can't Brooke string together sentences? Do people really not remember the runner-ups? Will Niecy go through with her wardrobe malfunction — if only to keep up the double-entendre count? Who's your current pick to win? Vote below!
