"We Are Not Animals" Season 1, Episode 7

So, do you think Greg was foolish to flee, despite Patty's goon having his back? What a risky, risky move, and one that seems ill-fated, as that Mean Version of Paul Giamatti was last seen hot on his trail. Then again, this is the same Greg whose own paranoia on the sidewalk literally landed the subpoena in his lap. I'll give this episode a solid "B," as it served up lots of intel on the present day. Among the clues we were given: " Ellen and David had a fight, so Patty invited El to crash at her place. Very interestingly, Patty and only Patty knew Ellen was staying there. " Patty was out of town when Ellen slept over - and continues to be MIA as the police interrogate blood-soaked Ellen. " Ellen had never seen her attacker before. " Despite a mutual pledge of trust, Tom is totally playing Ellen and is in contact with Patty. Ellen, thank goodness, suspects this and has Hollis Nye on Tom's trail. Getting back to Gregory, as Ray calls him.... Looks like many of you were on to something last week, reading into a special "connection" between the gents. "Why, Gregory? You want me to stay?" asked Fisk. Then later, Boone referring to Greg as Ray's "friend," all but using air-quotes. And did I sense Ray getting choked up when he ordered Gregory to vanish? The whole Michael story comes off as filler, or perhaps "background" to underscore Patty's need to control people. But still, it was interesting to see her put the emancipation papers in front of him, though this being Patty Hewes, she knew he'd cower and come home. I liked Michael's line, though: "You want to control my life so you took away my free will. Pretty terrific parenting. Real 'mother of the year' stuff." He's like the only person who identifies and calls Patty on her BS. Lying about Tom trying to hire her away was a stupid decision on Ellen's part, though it's obviously here to seed the story. But in reality, it'd be a fair thing to cop to: He was angry, Patty noted herself, so why wouldn't he try to poach Ellen? All that matters is they are a happy family now. But this is the same "star associate lawyer" who ultimately picks up the murder weapon beside her estranged fiancé's bludgeoned body. Oy. Actually, I will upgrade this eppy to a B+ because of the following: Patty and the hubby's TiVo playlist: Wild Kingdom (accidentally deleted) BBC World News Charlie Rose Barefoot Contessa Deadliest Catch Lehrer News Hour The Dog Whisperer Anthony Bourdain: No ReservationsGiada's Weekend Getaways Mad Money Actually, I'll take back that "+" since Damages dared to paint the glorious, heavenly TiVo as complicated. They have obviously never battled with my Cablevision FauxVo. show less
