"A Regular Earl Anthony" Season 1, Episode 5

(Sorry for the delay; rough commute.) Tom, Tom, Tom.... Tomahawk, Tomahawk, Tomahawk. I'm not sure who should feel more jerked around - Tom, who went through all sorts of crises of conscience and blunt introspection only to wind up where he started, or us the viewers, who went along for the one-hour circuitous ride. That said, it's good to have Tom back on the team, officially. What would have really made my heart grin would have been for him to show up for work just hours after "negotiating" with Patty to find his name being added to the door. But Patty and Damages isn't about grinning hearts. This episode didn't advance the case or the story much, but we nonetheless cobbled together a few clues: " Ellen, it was reiterated in more flashbacks, is ultimately attacked (and in turn kills) a man with dark, sleek hair (though I suspect he's just a hired gun and no one we will ever get to know over the next eight episodes). " Katie, Ray told Frobisher, "is just one small piece of the puzzle." " Animal House's Boone (aka The Executive, here sporting a tux and no baby stroller) really, really wants Greg to cut all ties with Katie. " Patty has father (abuse?) issues. She also favors the occasional fast-food chicken, washed down with Bud Light. Interesting chess game this week. Fro withdraws the $100 million settlement - determined to come out of this an "innocent" man - and coaches his defendant pawn into luring Tom onto the case, only to then be open to a lesser (but still "guilty"-looking) offer. Basically, Fro ended up reinforcing Patty's team by seeking to fracture it. It's almost as if he wants to continue sparring with the dragon lady. Tom's mega-rich buddy (Donal Logue?) came thisclose to spouting one motivational snippet too many. I was ready to scream at the TV. I think the only one he left unsaid was, "Feel the burn." And to what end? Poor Tom couldn't even get out the speech to Patty that he wanted. Not enough Katie this week. Maybe it's because she apparently holds the keys to the kingdom, but I like her scenes, she's an interesting character. Then again, maybe I'm just swayed by her casual morals! A few favorite lines, and then I am off: " Ray to Frobisher: "When you say 'where I am,' I can only assume you don't mean on trial for corporate malfeasance." " "Walking out of your own Last Supper?" " Ellen's clueless mom: "Talk to Miss Hewes, I'm sure she'll understand." Yeahright! " Bar bimbo likening Greg to Tom Cruise. Yeahright! " Patty offering Tom help with "no strings attached." Pfft, she said the same thing to Michael Douglas. " "You're a No. 2, that's your talent.... That's your limit." Aww, is it Valentine's Day already? Oh, and two questions: " Is that a photo on Ray's desk of him with Dick Cheney? " Is Frobisher almost always eating/crunching on something? show less
