"Sort of Like a Family" Season 1, Episode 10

Wow. Knowing that Damages' episode titles come from lines of dialogue, do you ever keep an ear open for them? This week I waited, and waited... but boy, when it came, it came. Talk about picking at an open sore. I'm amazed that the deposition room didn't take more damage or that "bitch" was the worst Frobisher had to call Patty. There's so much ground to cover this week, I don't know where to begin. Maybe we should start at the very beginning with David's sex dream, which actually started off kinda hot... then brrrrrr! Shades of Michelle Pfeiffer morphing mid-straddle in that Harrison Ford thriller. We then go to Tom asking Patty about her "plan" for Ellen. "As long a Gregory is still in play, so is Ellen." Well, that certainly didn't bode well for Ms. Parsons. Good for Ellen for ultimately taking control of her destiny, telling the dragon lady, "I'm so sick of your bulls--t." Encore! Alas, it looks like the firing (which I suspected was "staged" in order to steer Ellen into "enemy territory") won't stick now that Patty has been impressed by the info on George's ex-employee. Loved the "negotiation" over the deposition's particulars: Patty: "Your client is a matinee idol. Unless his herpes flares up, he'll be fine [on camera]." Ray, regarding Patty's need for info: "That's what Wikipedia is for." I'm also tucking away in my bean this nugget from the Arlington dad: "Character is what you do in the dark." Man, Lindsay and Paris and Britney must have gobs. Let's pause here to applaud Peter Riegert for his effective turn as snakey George Moore. [ Applause] OK, now we get to the scene where Ray knots Arthur's tie for him. I just need to say that I can barely manage a Windsor when it's around my neck, let alone in "reverse." Was that a subtle hint at Ray's proclivities? Remember, a man's shirt has buttons on the other side so that a woman can dress him. Speaking of wives... Holly gave Arthur the hook. While I'm not surprised that her "date" turned out to be her attorney - oldest misdirect in the book - I was shocked that she filed the papers mid-deposition. Harsh. And why oh why did Ray rattle Arthur with the papers when he could have kept 'em quiet till they were done with the depo? (Answer: They needed Patty to be able to taunt him.) Ellen met George on the sly, both getting shutterbugged in the process. Who was snapping the pics? Someone on Patty's payroll to frame Ellen as the (nonexistent) office leak? So Ray's big secret (remember the oozing mouth/teeth?) is that he gave Gregory the stock and tipped him off to sell. And Fro seems entirely oblivious. (But not George.) "Who told you to think? You don't have license to think." Hope Patty was in the mood for crow that night. Flashing forward - we're now just a month away! - Tom uncovered a droplet of blood in Patty's apartment (as well as one majorly creepy doorman), and we then see blood on pedal-to-the-metal'ing Patty's loafer. "I know things... that could destroy Patty," arrested Ellen hinted. Hmmmm. Meanwhile (in flashback-land), Greg's tape apparently is still in his bag in Katie's house. Told ya she'd be busy spending her thousands. Finally, yes, "(212) 752-4708" (as heard on Ellen's voicemail) is a working phone number. Give it a ring!
