Chefs are asked to overcome major obstacles and acts of sabotage in this reality competition, which opens with a turkey-dinner challenge made complicated by thievery. Then, host Alton Brown has the chefs make edible French toast using burned bread; and lobster rolls are assembled without utensils.
Competitors bid on the chance to freeze an opponent for 10 minutes. Also: One chef is forced to use strange ingredients when cooking chicken wings; and gourmet doughnuts are prepared in the final challenge.
One contestant uses a hand torch to make grilled cheese, while another is forced to fill a shepherd's pie with beef jerky; the winner is determined after a battle involving egg rolls and fortune cookies.
Only one of the competing chefs is allowed to salt their steak. Other culinary obstacles include having to make an omelet on the underside of a pan; and being forced to serve bananas Foster on a stick.
The first challenge finds one chef having to whip up nachos without the use of any utensils. Also: Herbs and spices are replaced with savory jelly beans when making sausage and peppers; and shrimps and grits are prepared minus one of the key ingredients.
A pancake challenge kicks off the competition. Later, one chef is limited to only five pounds of ingredients when making jambalaya; and the winner is determined by the best tasting meatloaf and mashed potatoes.
Comfort food is on the menu. First, during a lasagna challenge, one chef is forced to grate a three-pound block of Parmesan cheese. Also: Not everyone is allowed to taste the chili they are serving; and one contestant must make their chicken cordon bleu actually blue.
