Back then, Cupid starred Jeremy Piven as a man who believed it was his mission to help Zeus boost romantically challenged mortals. ABC has pacted with Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas to develop a new version of Cupid, Thomas' short-lived yet well-liked 1998-99 series about a man who believes he was sent to Earth by Zeus to assist romantically challenged couples. "For the last couple years, I've been talking to ABC about how to do an anthological romantic comedy à la Cupid or Love Boat," Thomas tells Variety. "We kept coming back to Cupid as the best of the group, so they said, 'Why not... do Cupid again?'"Thomas will now pen an all-new pilot, but stresses, "I'm not going to reinvent it. What they're buying is the show." That said, Jeremy Piven's titular role will, of course, be recast.
