Q: I read your recent Dispatch in which you mentioned screening the premiere episode of CSI's ninth season. I know you are not at liberty to speak of the details, but I would really like to hear more of your opinion on the episode. Q: I read the news that William Petersen will cut back his time at CSI and won't be on air as much through the end of the series. Yet as I read the online reactions, I was surprised the news was taken as Petersen is gone when he isn't. He is just cutting back, which, given how long he has been with the show, does not spell disaster. What is your take to the fan reaction to the Petersen news? If the season opener of CSI is any indication—CBS gave critics screeners of the episode this week—William Petersen is going to get quite the emotional workout in his final 10 episodes as a series regular. At Friday's executive session, Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, announced a new character on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.Tassler's description of the character, who will replace the departing William Petersen, was interesting, to say the least. He's a doctor and scientist who comes into the CSI as an outsider; he won't start off as the boss. Here's the catch: He's a bit of a DNA expert, and has identified a common profile among serial killers — in his own genes!
