Part 2 charts the introduction of market economies in Poland, Russia, Chile, Bolivia and India and the “agony of reform” that followed. The pain wasn't equally felt, nor were circumstances similar. In Chile, free markets preceeded political freedom, while India was democratic despite its planned economy. But---despite the initial price hikes and layoffs resulting from the conversions' “shock therapy”---free markets lifted all their economies. David Ogden Stiers narrates.
