Season 1, Episode 1 The Battle of Ideas

Part 1 (of three) defines the “Battle of Ideas” between government and market forces to control economies and chronicles the conflict during the 20th century. The primary intellectual battlers: economists John Maynard Keynes and Friedrich Von Hayek. Keynes saw the economy as a “machine”; Hayek as a force of nature. The Keynsian view prevailed for much of the century. Then “stagflation” arrived in the 1970s, followed by Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. Based on a book by Daniel Yergin and Joe Stanislaw. David Ogden Stiers narrates.
