The Closer: Recaps

The Closer Episode Recap: "Elysian Fields"

This week on TNT's The Closer, a new murder revived a decade-old, unsolved case, leading Brenda to get an "assist" from retired detective "Joey O" Olin (guest star Tom Skerritt). All the while, Brenda is haunted by a loose end of her own. Here now the recap!

It's the middle of the night and Brenda fell asleep with the TV on. As she retires to bed – Fritz isn't home – she spies an open bathroom window, then hears something break in the living room. Whipping out her gun and retrieving her cell, she calls the office for back-up: "Send units to my house, now! Stroh, he's here!"

Brenda is awoken from this nightmare by ... read more

The Closer Episode Recap: "Strike Three"

This week on TNT's The Closer, Brenda butts heads once again with the FID's Capt. Raydor, when two cops and a civilian are shot dead during a pull-over. On with the recap...

An LAPD chopper circles the site of a street shootout. Two officers are down, slain by an onslaught of bullets, while a young man lay dead in front of their patrol car, felled by return fire.

The mood is somber as the MCD arrives to survey the scene. The numbered tags for the bullet casings reach well into the double digits. The black-and-white had turned the corner for a "routine" pull-over, only to get mercilessly ambushed ... read more

The Closer Episode Recap: "Tapped Out"

This week on TNT's The Closer, Brenda and her team of crimestoppers got more than a little help on a case from no less than Det. Dick Tracy. Power down your two-way wrist radios, kids, and read on for our recap!

Provenza and Flynn are breakfasting at a diner, discussing Provenza's new joie de vivre — after dating Lauren for nine weeks, he's almost off his blood-pressure meds — when Pope joins them, to be "just one of the guys." That plan is immediately waylaid when a series of black-and-whites pull up across the street.

Provenza pulls closed the window blinds. Pope says, "Yellow tape goes up in your vicinity and that's your reaction?" As Pope dashes off to fight for truth, justice and what not, the boys begrudingly follow.

At the parking garage murder scene ... read more

The Closer Episode Discussion: "Half-Load"

The Closer Episode Recap: "Walking Back the Cat"

This week on TNT's The Closer, Fritz "distracted" Brenda from thoughts of Kitty by luring her into helping out on an FBI case. Provenza, meanwhile, had a big surprise for the squad room. On with the recap!

As Brenda cooks up a storm (things are slow at the MCD), Fritz comes home... with Kitty's ashes. "I see dead bodies all the time," Brenda says as she moves past Fritz to get a look. But upon doing so, she is crushed: "Ohhhh! These are not ashes, they're chunks!" And they're labeled "Kitty Howard" at that. Brenda wants to spread the ashes somewhere important to Kitty. "Where?" Fritz asks. "She was never allowed to go outside."

Fritz asks Brenda for a "favor" — even though it might run afoul of their pledge to separate work and home. Seems the FBI is looking for a guy named Austin Blair. Brenda agrees ... read more

The Closer Episode Recap: "Red Tape"

This week on TNT's The Closer, as Gabriel came under fire after a questionable shooting, Brenda went toe-to-toe with an internal affairs toughie. Also: Kitty's fate was revealed. On with the recap!

Gabriel meets with Taylor at a bar. Seems that the commander was asked to play messenger and get a letter to the MIA Daniels. Irene, however, would have none of it, and sent the missive back untouched. "There are some things an apology just can't change," Taylor tries to explain. "She's moved on, and so should you." Hmm.

Gabriel starts to open up about how he has felt removed from the MCD gang ever since he bucked for the promotion Daniels got when BANG! Shots outside. Gabriel rushes out, gun waving. There's a body on the ground. In the dark, he sees someone fleeing. Gabriel fires multiple times ... read more

The Closer Episode Recap: "Blood Money"

This week on TNT's The Closer, Kyra... er, Brenda looked into the mysterious disappearance of a Bernie Madoff-like swindler, ailing Kitty kept on keeping on, and Provenza's sad-sack mood radically (perhaps suspiciously) changed. On with the recap!

Allan Summers, a real estate tycoon who ran afoul of employees, investors and the government, has gone missing. He last was seen being picked up at LAX by a car service — and the driver, Mario Gomez, is MIA, too. Summers' wife and son claim ... read more

The Closer Episode Recap: "Products of Discovery"

As TNT's The Closer kicked off its fifth season, Brenda tackled a quadruple homicide, butted heads with an FBI agent, and came to a sad realization about an ailing loved one. Oh, and in a delicious piece of irony, chocolate helped save the day! On with the recap...

Four dead bodies are found in a home — a mom, her two kids and their grandmother. Shot execution-style. The last person seen leaving the house was the husband/father, and the timing fits with the time of death. Plus, he and the wife had a bit of a domestic squabble a short while back. Flynn likes the guy, Victor, as a suspect. Perhaps too much.

With newspaperman/sometime thorn-in-side Ricardo Ramos looking on (thanks, Pope!), Brenda grills Victor about his alibi for that morning. He says his wife and kids can vouch for him. When Brenda brings up the past abuse charge, Victor is ... read more

The Closer Episode Recap: "Double Blind"

This week, as TNT's The Closer presented its fourth season finale, Brenda tried to tie up one last case before tying the knot with Fritz. But can the woman who does it all have it all?

I was among those who, upon reading James Duff's latest TVGuide.com blog, grew most curious as to what was going to go down during this season finale. Duff is a superb tease, and certainly had many of us thinking - worrying - that jitters, second thoughts or something far worse/deadly might keep Brenda and Fritz from becoming husband and wife.

The episode opens with ... read more

The Closer Episode Recap: "Fate Line"

This week on TNT's The Closer, Brenda gained a "psychic friend" when Fritz's sister paid a visit. Meanwhile, Pope threatened to cut the MCD team by one. On with the recap.

A roadside litter crew is working a stretch along the 101 when a discarded cell phone is discovered. The guy who found it brings it to the MCD, because a series of text messages spells out a murder plot - one which appears to have been successfully carried out! But by who, and against whom? Major questions ... read more
