Episode Detail: Amanda - Character Studies

Plumbing the desperate psyche of Amanda Wingfield, the mother of two adult children in Tennessee Williams' “The Glass Menagerie.” Julie Harris, Olympia Dukakis, Ruby Dee, Martha Plimpton and Molly Regan are the Amandas commenting, and Katharine Hepburn is seen in clips from a 1973 TV production. Williams' mother (quoted by Marsha Mason) also chimes in. Amanda is “rooted in me,” she says, “and this is generally not meant as a compliment.”
