Celebs' Rehab: Taking Shortcuts? Dr. Drew Opines

Dr. Drew Pinsky by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

"News" alert? Dr. Drew Pinksy — the mind behind VH-1's Celebrity Rehab — insists that Hollywood has a big addiction problem, and it's sweeping it under the red carpet. He tells the AP that celebrities aren't taking drug and alcohol addiction seriously enough, often opting for exclusive rehab facilities for stints that are too quick to heal them. For a guy who claims he doesn't like treating celebrities, Pinsky's mastered the art of not only treating them, but serving as the authority on their addiction. The doc will be laying out his Hollywood addiction views Tuesday in VH1 News Presents: Dr. Drew's Celebrity Addiction Special."If you had cancer, you would drop everything," he said. "We can't get people to take three months." Do you agree with the doctor's diagnosis? Drew's special on the topic airs July 1 (VH-1, 10 pm/ET). — Anna DimondMore from Dr. Drew:• Dr. Drew Offers Tempered Apology to Cruise Camp• Gary Busey, Former Idol Check into Rehab• Rod St... read more

Gary Busey, Former Idol Check into Rehab

Gary Busey by Eric Charbonneau/WireImage.com

As previously reported, VH1 is bringing back Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew for a second season of exploiting chronicling the struggles celebs face while detoxing in a treatment facility. But this time around, there's one huge reason to watch: Gary Busey.Busey, whose wild antics have been well-documented (most recently his crazed behavior on the red carpet at the 2008 Academy Awards), is remarkably not one of the celebs in for treatment. Instead — touting 13 years of sobriety since his cocaine addiction — Busey will be a mentor to the new class of patients which includes Season 1 cast member Jeff Conaway (Grease), Sean Stewart (son of music icon Rod Stewart), model/actress Amber Smith, Rodney King, Guns N' Roses' Steven Adler, Tawny Kitaen and former American Idol wanabe Nikki McKibbin. Here's hoping at least one of his sessions involves teaching the addicts how to yell at teenaged journalists. The series will follow the patients during a 21-day program featuring group and o... read more

Rod Stewart's Son Enters Celebrity Rehab

Mr. Stewart, the doctor will see you now. Though unconfirmed by VH1, Page Six hears that Sean Stewart, son of singer Rod Stewart, will undergo Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. The second season of the series, in which Dr. Drew Pinsky helps celebs beat substance abuse and other issues, starts production this month.Young Stewart has had his share of run-ins with the dark side. Last year, for example, he was denied entrance to a trendy L.A. club, so he turned around and began hurling whatever he could find at a passing car, in turn injuring a passenger.Page Six says Pinsky will also help Heidi Fleiss beat her substance abuse problems, while former NBA star Dennis Rodman has been offered an opportunity to see the good doctor. — J.R. Shocking Celebrity Rehab Moments Revealed

Drew Pinsky, Celebrity Rehab

Approximately 72 hours into the harrowing 21-day treatment regimen that is now playing itself out as Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew on VH1, an amazing thing happened, even more shocking than the sight of Crazy Town's Seth "Shifty" Binzer smoking crack while cameras rolled, incapacitated former Taxi star Jeff Conaway's horrible, convulsive withdrawal symptoms, or even the confiscation of porn star Mary Carey's sex toys. Behind the scenes, VH1 executives, who were on location last August at the Pasadena Recovery Center, made an unprecedented decision: Instead of manipulating the action in the standard reality-show way — by introducing artificial dramatic elements to make sure the storylines stayed interesting — they decided to let the treatment process unfold on its own, organically, just as Dr. Drew Pinsky had be read more

Jeers: I'm in Celebrity Rehab — Get Me Out of Here!

Jeff Conaway by Evans Ward/VH1, Merilu Henner by Justin Stephens/NBC

Jeers to The Celebrity Apprentice and Celebrity Rehab for sticking too closely to the same casting formula. Think about it: Both shows have featured a Baldwin brother (Stephen and Daniel), a Taxi vet (Marilu Henner and Jeff Conaway), a rocker (KISS' Gene Simmons and Crazy Town's Seth "Shifty" Binzer), an Ultimate Fighter (Tito Ortiz and Ricco Rodriguez), an adult-entertainment icon (ex-Playmate of the Year Tiffany Fallon and porn star Mary Carey), a "Family" member (The Sopranos' Vincent Pastore and Family Matters' Jaimee Foxworth) and a one-named Surreal Life alum (Omarosa and Chyna). And oh yeah, Brigitte Nielsen was a Surreal Lifer, too! Maybe all these "celebrities" should do a show called "Reality Rehab."• Read and react to Bruce's opinions on Fox's Moment of Truth, Larry King's flubbed Heath Ledger tribute and more!• Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board.• We may feature your Cheer or Jeer on TVGuide.c... read more
