Walter Cronkite
Walter Cronkite, the legendary CBS Evening News anchor once celebrated as "the most trusted man in America," has died. He was 92.
"My father, Walter Cronkite, died," The New York Times quoted his son, Chip, as saying. The newsman's family said last month he was seriously ill with cerebrovascular disease.
CBS interrupted its programming to run his obituary.

Cronkite, known for his gravelly voice and tell-it-like-it-is reporting, anchored CBS' nightly newscast for 19 years, signing off each broadcast with his now-famous catchphrase, "And that's the way it is." He was the voice America turned to for ...

Katie Couric
Prime time better watch its back: Not only will Jay Leno soon snag the 10 pm hour on NBC, but Katie Couric will borrow an 8 pm slot Wednesday for a special broadcast of The CBS Evening News.
The show isn't leaving its normal 6:30 pm position. But network executives hope Couric's raid on prime time will showcase her strengths and help her snag more viewers earlier in the evening. CBS has been third in nightly news ratings since more than a decade before Couric arrived at the network in September 2006, but is the most-watch network in prime time.

Katie Couric, CBS Evening News
When Katie Couric first took over the CBS Evening News, she said she didn't want to do your grandmother's newscast. But she's found out the hard way that Grandma liked her evening news the way it was. The program's ratings have fallen to a 20-year low, languishing behind ABC's World News with Charles Gibson and NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. CBS News recently installed veteran producer Rick Kaplan, who has upped the number of stories covered and dropped the informal touches that Couric brought to it.
"A lot of things didn't work," says Kaplan. "It didn't suit what the viewers were looking for, and we got off it and tried something else. We gave everyone a lesson in some things not to do."
The anchor agrees it's the way to go for now.
"Rick is trying to reassure people that we are here every night coverin

Marlee Matlin on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
Let me first get this off my chest; I'm no Ty Pennington. There is no one out there with more energy, more enthusiasm and a greater ability to multitask than Ty, not to mention anyone better with a hammer and nails. So imagine my reaction when he asked me to undertake hosting an episode of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (airing this Sunday at 8 pm/ET). "You can do it," he assured me. I thought to myself, tear down a house and build a new one in less than a week? And supervise a small army of designers and volunteers? I guess so. Not much different than being a mom of four!
My first day was all about the bus. There's definitely a trick to standing on a moving bus while talking to the designers about the family we were about to meet. Speaking of designers, you couldn't ask for a more profes

CBS is taking it easy on us today, scheduling just four sessions, including the eagerly awaited Katie Couric panel and a Q&A with the cast of CSI (sans William Petersen). We're also having lunch with Rachael Ray, and my Aunt Joan will flay me if I don't hit her up for VIP. tickets to her new talk show. I cannot go back home to New York without those tickets. BREAKFAST9:10 am: Omelet stations! Egg-cellent! CBS NEWS Q&A WITH KATIE COURIC9:40 am: America's sweetheart is 10 minutes late. Maybe she's having last-minute wardrobe issues. Wow, could I be any more sexist? 9:45 am: America's sweetheart is 15 minutes late. Maybe she's on the phone renewing her restraining order against Ann Curry. 9:46 am: Katie's finally in the house and she's eschewed her signature short skirt for a simple tan pantsuit that screams "serious newswoman!" A CBS publicist blames her tardiness on one of the omelet stations setting "off the fire alarm." Hmmm... I didn't hear a fire alarm. 9:47 am: ...
