Premise: Rough and rotund Frank Cannon was (in one sense) the biggest TV detective of the '70s. The L.A. PI was no `Hollywood god,' conceded his portrayer, William Conrad. But he cared and it showed. `Cannon' was a staple of producer Quinn Martin's detective stable for five seasons. It was up for a Best Drama Emmy in '73, and Conrad was nominated for Best Drama Actor in '73 and '74. A 1980 TV-movie had Conrad reprising the role, coming out of retirement to investigate a friend's reported suicide.
