Both won Emmys when they introduced the roles on 'The Practice.' Apart from benefiting from a 'Desperate Housewives' lead-in, 'Boston Legal' got a ratings boost when Candice Bergen came aboard as no-nonsense partner (and Crane's ex-lover) Shirley Schmidt.
