Aaron McGruder has inked a deal with the comedy site Super Deluxe to create The Super Rumble Mixshow, a live-action series chockablock with the Boondocks creator's racially charged humor.... Jericho: The First Season arrives on DVD Oct. 2 in a six-disc, 22-episode set. My copy came packed with (real, not styrofoam) peanuts; yours, probably not.... Tuesday's premiere of CBS' Cane will be fully sponsored by Chevrolet and thus feature limited commercial breaks.... Season 2 of Aaron McGruder's The Boondocks premieres on Adult Swim Oct. 8 at 11:30 pm/ET.... Charles Durning will receive the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award when the 14th Annual SAG Awards are presented on Jan. 27, 2008.... From Oct. 2 to Nov. 7, Starbucks will give away a total of 50 million free "Song of the Day" downloads, starting with Bob Dylan's "Joker Man," to promote a new iTunes wireless service. read more

Call me greedy, but when I get a little taste of good news, I can't help wanting more. Which is why, on a morning when NBC pleasantly surprises me with an early-renewal notice for the hilarious 30 Rock and the classy Peabody Awards lists among this year's honorees NBC's other best freshman show, the tremendously moving and appealing Friday Night Lights, I can't help but think the fates are aligning to give us a second season of this small-town gridiron drama as well. C'mon, NBC. Do the right thing. You know you want to.Here's how the Peabodys described Friday Night Lights in its citation: "No dramatic series, broadcast or cable, is more grounded in contemporary American reality than this clear-eyed serial about the hopes, dreams, livelihoods and egos intertwined with the fate of high-school football in a Texas town." Fall's Edgiest New Show Is... a Cartoon? | Today's News: Our Take | 9/6/2005
Bold even by late-night standards, The Boondocks is an animated adaptation of the satiric newspaper comic strip. Set to join Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block on Oct. 2, The Boondocks follows the adventures of Huey and Riley, brothers aged 10 and 8, as they move from Chicago's South Side to their grandfather's home in suburbia. TV Guide spoke with creator and executive producer Aaron McGruder, who calls the series "an R-rated black comedy in an anime style." That it includes ample usage of the N-word pretty much guarantees it will catch considerable flak this fall.
