A woman calls the police and threatens to kill herself and the man who killed her parents, so Danny races to find her in time. Elsewhere, Frank goes on a field trip with Sean and tries to convince the lead chaperone to be less rigid with the kids.
Danny and Baez investigate the murder of a college professor who was involved with a questionable scholarship program. Meanwhile, Danny learns that his father didn't tell him that the DA is investigating him for ethical and procedural violations.
An undercover cop in Danny's squad gets killed, and Frank is determined to find the murderer. However, things get complicated when the victim's secret is unearthed. Elsewhere, Nicky turns to Jamie as she looks for an ex-classmate living on the streets.
In the fifth-season opener, Baez gets injured while escorting confiscated drugs, so Danny goes after the drug cartel responsible. Elsewhere, a lieutenant with a commendable record engages in controversial behavior, putting Frank in a difficult situation.
Jamie refuses to shun a cop who testified against her partner, earning him disapproval from Eddie and other officers. Elsewhere, Erin and Danny get into a dispute when a closed case leads to a new murder; and a sports celebrity visits Frank.
Danny and Baez temporarily get new partners because an outed cop's partner won't ride with him. Elsewhere, Jamie and Eddie try to snatch a collar from an arrogant detective; and Frank's statement on equality in the police force alienates the Archdiocese.
An international felon keeps getting away with murder, but Frank and Danny set out to stop him. Meanwhile, Erin considers going into private practice in order to pay for Nicky's college; and Danny gets off on the wrong foot with his new boss.
A cop's body camera malfunctions during an altercation with a civilian, and Frank must deal with the negative public reaction. Elsewhere, Danny and Baez try to safeguard an informant; and Erin looks into a rape claim made by her friend's daughter.
Three community leaders are killed in apparent hate crimes, and Danny and Baez investigate as Frank meets with folks who want to ensure the gravity of these crimes is not ignored. Meanwhile, Linda wants to protect herself with a gun after getting mugged.
A homeless teenager claims his aunt was murdered by her boyfriend, so Jamie tries to help the kid, and he enlists Danny's assistance with the case. Elsewhere, Erin's displeased when McCoy replaces her on a case concerning a corrections officer.
A hit man invades a home and gets shot by the homeowner, and Danny and Baez must investigate. Elsewhere, an old murder case of Erin's is reopened, and the young attorney she faces is the son of the woman who was convicted during the original trial.
Baez is held hostage in an interrogation room by a distressed man who wants to see his daughter. Elsewhere, Garrett's son gets in trouble with the law, so Garrett turns to Frank for help, creating an ethical dilemma for the police commissioner.
Erin's unnerved when someone breaks into her apartment, and then she discovers her coworker was attacked. Elsewhere, Jamie and Eddie find a pipe bomb in a senior citizen's home; and Frank investigates a charity that's supposedly helping the NYPD.
