The driller competition heats up as the deadline looms, while a rigless Brandon draws the attention of the local police; and Freddie attempts to round Rig 28 into shape with some new personnel, but Oscar and his crew are not the least bit welcoming.
Brandon runs into legal problems and is upset when Cheston doesn't bail him out; and to compound matters, Oscar is tiring of Brandon's all-too-frequent no-shows. Later, Cheston squares off against Mitch in a battle for the vacant driller position.
When a gas buildup threatens a crew, Brandon goes high above the rig to relieve the pressure. Later, an impromptu rig inspection causes tensions to run high, while some lakeside R&R results in a visit from the law.
Brandon gives Cheston a promised drilling lesson; and Landowner Larry lays it on the line with Oscar about hitting their deadline. Later, Brandon's legal woes leave him facing a 20-year sentence and the ire of the big brass.
