Ian Abercrombie, Elaine's Boss on Seinfeld, Dies at 77

Ian Abercrombie, the British stage actor best known as Elaine's boss Mr. Pitt on Seinfeld, has died. He was 77.

Abercrombie died Thursday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from complications of kidney failure, according to the Los Angeles Times. He had recently been diagnosed with lymphoma.

Born in England, Abercrombie started out as a stage dancer and made his American stage debut in 1955 in a production of Stalag 17 with Jason Robards. After serving in the Army as part of Special Services in Germany, he returned to acting, appearing in numerous plays, TV shows and films before a seven-episode arc on Seinfeld changed his life.

Working together with Alfred, Dinah and Reese, Helena must infiltrate the clock tower and battle Harley and her cohorts before they gain control of the entire city.

While Dinah and Reese infiltrate the operation, Barbara tries to find an antidote for the drug. But Malcolm catches Dinah and injects her as well, forcing her to fight Helena. Barbara and Reese must race to save Dinah and Helena before their battle becomes deadly.

Justice for TV's Wonder Women


Female comic-book characters have taken a beating on screen in recent years — and not just in the course of battling the bad guys. Despite big budgets and big stars, the dreary Elektra and the unintentionally campy Catwoman both failed creatively and at the box office.

Television hasn't done much better (at least not since the '70s when Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman was fighting for our rights in her satin tights). Birds of Prey, WB's mangled 2002 adaptation of a DC Comics series about a group of vigilantes, was plagued by cringe-inducing dialogue — "We ruled Gotham's nights and answered to no one but ourselves" — and cheesy special effects.
