The Joy of Sets: Fastlane, Birds of Prey and Other Piles of Awesome!

While June may be my birthday month — thereby the best month ever — July brought with it some of the greatest DVD gifts a TV addict could ask for. Including some long-awaited arrivals, as well as two takes on L.A.'s prettiest people. So if you missed any of them, get with the program. Just don't ask to borrow mine. 'Cause I'm not sharing these goodies! — Damian HolbrookFastlane — Finally! Fox's uber-fab cars-and-cops series parks itself on shelves, complete with Peter Facinelli in low-rider leather pants, Bill Bellamy doing drama almost better than he does comedy, and a scorchin' attitude. In fact, the only thing missing is the "Amber" from Tiffani Thiessen, who is still pretty hot as the ex-junkie in charge of the Candy Shop, a sort of sexed-up Batcave for her bad-boy employees. And yes, Pervy McPervesters... the Thiessen-Jaime Pressly hot-tub smooch is intact. Buy Fastlane on Amazon.comTiny Toon Adventures — They're tiny, they're tooney, they're all a lit... read more

OK, so how cool is our new DVD blog? Fancy, huh? Yeah, I know, it’s like cracking open that full-season set of your dreams and finding out they threw in a secret bonus disc!To celebrate the cool new digs—and the new year (which sadly for me kicked off with the stomach flu from Hell)—I thought it would be nifty to do a wish list of shows I would LOVELOVELOVE to show up on DVD during 2008. And once I'm done ya'll need to send me your picks so we can all commiserate later on, aiiight?Models Inc. — Laugh all ya’s want, but 1994’s cheesoid Melrose spin-off had a pre-"Matrix" Carrie Ann Moss and a wedding-day sniper cliffhanger that Aaron Spelling himself told me was resolved in the UK version of the finale. For the love of Emma Samms, I need to know who took the bullet!Wonderbug — Just to shut up my brother the mechanic! Once a month he’s all “find me that show!” Honestly, the Sid & Marty Krofft Saturday-morning head trip about a talk... read more

Justice for TV's Wonder Women

Female comic-book characters have taken a beating on screen in recent years — and not just in the course of battling the bad guys. Despite big budgets and big stars, the dreary Elektra and the unintentionally campy Catwoman both failed creatively and at the box office.

But on Saturday, June 4, two Birds of Prey characters, Huntress and Black Canary, get another chance on TV, headlining "Double Date," an exceptional episode of Cartoon Network's superhero cavalcade Justice League Unlimited. The script is by Gail Simone, who writes th read more
