Musical Notes: Dick Clark's NYE, SNL and More

Christina Aguilera, Rascal Flatts and the cast of Broadway's Jersey Boys will all perform live from Times Square during Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve 2007, on ABC.... Saturday Night Live has added chart-topping hip-hop artist Akon to its Dec. 9 outing, which already offers Annette Bening as host and Gwen Stefani as a musical guest.... Mary J. Blige was the big winner at Monday's Billboard Music Awards, grabbing nine wins, including female R&B artist of the year and R&B/hip-hop album of the year. Billboard Awards' Janet Jackson Has AMEX Appeal

Following Fox's live, Monday-night broadcast of the 2006 Billboard Music Awards — to be hosted by whom is anyone's guess — American Express cardmembers will be able to log on to and use their plastic to access streaming footage of Janet Jackson performing two songs from her repertoire, as well as partaking in a Q&A. And while yes, membership does have its privileges, no, you will not be glimpsing anymore of her bosom. read more

BFFs Britney and Paris to Put On a Show?

"In a move that may cause a black hole of stupidity to implode in the middle of Las Vegas," as the New York Post's Page Six so snarkily puts it, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton have supposedly been tapped to cohost the 2006 Billboard Music Awards, airing live from Las Vegas this coming Monday night on Fox. Accordingly, the view from the front-row seats is now being sponsored by the Gillette Daisy.UPDATE: Britney has abruptly and mysteriously bailed on the gig, Us is reporting. "We really don't know the reason," a source at Fox tells the mag. "But we're disappointed." Brad Garrett is said to be next on the net's wish list, so please, totally forget that Gillette Daisy imagery, thanks. read more

Musical Notes: Prince Does Sin City, Fergie and More

On Nov. 10, Prince launches an "indefinite" run of twice-a-weekend shows at Las Vegas' 3121 nightclub, inside the Rio hotel. Tickets cost $125, and go on sale today.... Janet Jackson, Fergie and the Killers are all on board to perform live at the 2006 Billboard Music Awards, airing Dec. 4 on Fox. Celine Dion, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Katharine McPhee and Chris Daughtry are set to make guest appearances.... Apple has launched iTunes Latino, a dedicated area within its online store for Latin music, videos, audiobooks and podcasts. read more

Short Cuts: X-Men, Sharon Stone and More!

X-Men: The Last Stand topped the DVD sales and rental charts last week by selling 5 million units and generating $10.5 million in rental revenue.... Sharon Stone will cohost the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway, on Dec. 11.... The 2006 Billboard Music Awards will air Dec. 4 on Fox.... The N will premiere its first sketch-comedy special, The Brandon T. Jackson Show, on Nov. 24 at 9 pm/ET. Celeb guests will include Wayne Brady, Sinbad and Nelly Furtado. read more
