Big Brother 11 Episode Recap: August 13, 2009 (Eviction 5) Season 11, Episode 16

The season's most pivotal eviction yet came to us taped rather than live, but that didn't make it any less exciting. (Though, really, CBS could have come up with a better solution if you ask me.) But, back to the show, so many questions loomed as the hour began. Would Jeff use the power of coup d'etat? Who would go to the jury house for a week of solitude? Would Chima's head explode if her reign was undermined? Let's find out.

I apologize in advance, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, this recap is going to be a bit more brief than usual. Life is crazy sometimes. But that just leaves more room for you guys to pick the show apart in the comments section!

The episode began with Russell making his rounds to swing some votes his way. He and Jessie had words, as Russell tried to convince him that the guys' only chance in the house was to keep Russell, because the women would band together to pick off the other men. Jessie, however, still couldn't get past Russell picking Jeff to play in the veto competition, calling it a "kick in the teeth."

Then, just as Russell cozied up to Michele, Jessie stormed the castle and made a scene. He was quick to remind Michele that the same guy playing nice right now was the one who called her a psycho and a nutcase just days earlier. (The man has a point.) Russell didn't like Jessie sticking his nose in his business, so Russell stuck his nose in Jessie's face, where they had an uber-macho stare-down/scream-fest. I do believe an MMA fighter could handle a professional wrestler wannabe, but I might pay money to see the two go at it.

Julie (who looked lovely as always) introduces us to Chima's grandmother via a video package, during which we learn once again that Chima is a strong-willed person. (No, really?) Glad to see Grammy doesn't approve of Chima's tantrums. Julie's HOH convo with Chima is all a moot point as far as I'm concerned.

So, the magic hour arrives, and Jeff shocks no one (well, maybe Jordan) when he reveals that he indeed is "the wizard." Julie explains Jeff's powers, Chima seethes, Jessie pouts and Jeff soaks up the moment. He quickly removes both Lydia and Russell from the block, replacing them with Natalie and Jessie. They both are decent sports (aside from Jessie ripping off his shirt to reveal a T-shirt promoting himself as "The Man, The Myth, The Legend.) Jessie does compliment Jeff for making a strong move in the game, however.

Since Chima and Jeff both do not vote, there will be no tie. Lydia votes out Natalie (shocker!) and so does Russell, perhaps as an attempt to keep his word to Jessie and score a jury house vote should he make it to the finals. That means Jessie, by a vote of 3-2 is evicted and will spend a week poolside with only his ego in the jury house. Jessie really said nothing of merit in his interview with Julie, which makes me fear for my chat with him tomorrow. (He's the one houseguest I wasn't able to speak to last year.) I do think Jessie played a better game this year, but Jeff had no other choice but to bust up the power couple.

The HOH competition was a head-to-head trivia quiz about previous competitions. Right answers move on, wrong answer puts you out. In a twist I didn't expect (but one that makes sense) Chima gets to play in the competition since she was dethroned as HOH. Jeff and Chima pick people off back and forth until Michele gets the best of Jeff. Chima is happy that only Michele and Kevin are left, and in the end, the neuroscientist becomes the next HOH.

It's not the worst case for Jeff, who undoubtedly made enemies this week. He and Jordan have been close to Michele, but she's also been spending a lot of time with Chima lately. We'll see who she trusts more come Sunday.

So, what did you think of episode? Are you glad Jeff used the power and sent Jessie out? Who do you think Michele will nominate? Do you think CBS overreacted by taping the show rather than airing it live? Share your thoughts below and vote in the latest power rankings poll. Then check back later to see who gets nominated.
