Beauty and the Geek: TV Guide News
Sam Brings Shock and Awww to Beauty and the Geek | TV Guide Interviews & Features | 9/25/2007
In the final moments of last week's Beauty and the Geek season premiere, the 18 newly paired hotties and nerds saw this year's biggest bombshell: an additional team of complete opposites in the competition ? Sam, an L.A. club promoter, as the token male "beauty," and Nicole, a female "geek" graduate student at Tufts University. Host Mike Richards hinted to TVGuide.com that their presence in the house made this BATG season like no other. (After all, when has the show ever featured a well-groomed...

Ratings: Brother's Big, But Not Bigger Than Loser | Today's News: Our Take | 9/20/2007
This Tuesday's ratings at a glance: A two-hour The Biggest Loser matched last week's premiere audience 7.9 million total viewers and surged to nine mil in the 9 pm hour opposite Big Brother's finale. Beauty and the Geek scored 3.34 mil on its first-ever fall date. That's a 30-percent drop from the previous season opener. Big Brother wrapped up its season with 8.5 mil, a three percent improvement on the Season 7 closer. All told, BB8 matched 7 in average audience...

Beauty Is Back — and Geekier Than Ever | TV Guide Interviews & Features | 9/18/2007
Another round of pairing the brainy pocket-protector set with the bodacious but intellectually challenged begins tonight (8 pm/ET, CW). And though it still offers up lessons in self-confidence and not judging a book by its cover, Beauty and the Geek's "social experiment" has some added surprises in its fourth season. Host Mike Richards talked to TVGuide.com about this season's twists ? including casting assistance from last year's lovebirds Nate and Jennylee, who appear in tonight's two-hour...

CW at TCA: Sophomore Success? | Roush Dispatch | 7/20/2007
It took a year, but the CW (the network cobbled together from the ashes of the WB and UPN) is finally starting to look like a real network, albeit one aggressively and obsessively focused on the 18-34 youth market. Which no doubt is causing more than a few existential crises among those longtime vets of the TCA press tour who said goodbye to that demo a while ago.Dawn Ostroff, the networks relentlessly perky entertainment president, took a no regrets approach to her upbeat...

CW Announces Its Fall Lineup | First Look: Hottest Fall TV | 5/17/2007
On Wednesday night, CW's top-rated series, America's Next Top Model, showed double-digit growth last season and was the No. 1 show in its time slot with women 18-34. Next season, America's Next Top Model will stay in its 8-9 pm berth, followed by the new drama Gossip Girl from 9-10 pm. From The O.C. producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, Gossip Girl is based on the best-selling young-adult book series of the same name. The show features an ensemble cast of new and veteran actors,...

The CW: Network Lite | Roush Dispatch | 5/17/2007
The question that has been keeping no one I know on the edge of their seat: Whats next for the CW, coming off its mostly dismal freshman year, in which the biggest news was made by posting closing notices on shows that had long ago peaked or lost much of their buzz (7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, the latter still apparently having an itty-bitty chance of midseason resurrection). A year in which the closest thing to a new breakout hit that didnt originate on either the WB...

CW Gossip: New Series Eyes Kristen Bell, Hill on Hold | Today's News: Our Take | 5/17/2007
With the CW poised to unfurl its official fall plans any moment now, a tentative sked making rounds has new cycles of Beauty and the Geek and Top Model kicking off Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. The "comedy-thriller" ("chiller"?) Reaper will trail Geek, while O.C. creator Josh Schwartz's Gossip Girl claims the plum aprés-Tyra spot. Adding to the buzzworthy Gossip is EW.com's report that Kristen Bell (she of that little show called Veronica Mars) will serve as the never-seen...

February 21, 2007: Geeks and Chics "Reunite" | Beauty and the Geek Show Blog | 2/22/2007
Was anyone else hugely disappointed by tonight's "reunion special"? When I think of a reunion and an end-of-season wrap-up, I imagine an hour chock-full of seeing and learning new things, combined with the contestants reuniting as in, being in the same room at the same time, talking among themselves about the experience. See Survivor or even the CW's very own America's Next Top Model for examples. Halfway through the show I actually checked my DVR's guide to see if this was a two-hour...

Ratings: Oh, What a (Friday) Night! | Today's News: Our Take | 2/15/2007
I have two words for you Panthers fans: Touchdown! (OK, it's a compound word.) Read on for Wednesday's provocative ratings recap: As Bones (12.35 million total viewers) understandably slipped 300,000 from last week's all-time high, Friday Night Lights (7.43 mil) hit a series high (save for TSMO30O, of course) to place third in the hour, yet way ahead of the Jericho clip show, in the coveted 18-49 demo. Beauty and the Geek (4.2 mil) ended its third cycle with a 200K drop (albeit a high for...

February 14, 2007: Sweet Revenge | Beauty and the Geek Show Blog | 2/15/2007
Well, all is right again in the world of BATG. I know many (including myself) were put off by Ceci's bullying and manipulating antics and feared that her winning would ruin the spirit of the show. Thanks to the much-publicized twist, Ceci's character (or lack thereof) was made even more apparent (who knew that was possible) in the last 24 hours, and the booted-off geeks and beauties awarded the more deserving, humble and appreciative team. I wouldn't necessarily say that Megan and Scooter were...

It was bound to happen: a BF versus GF matchup in the elimination room. But comparing it to a Greek tragedy, Nate? I wouldn't take it that seriously. However, at least he and Jennylee recognize the competition's deeper (if reality TV can be deep) elements of respecting others and broadening yourself. Ceci continues to be equal parts inconsiderate, aloof and conceited. Granted, it could be a case of being in front of the camera as well as some drama-inducing editing. But if so, how to explain...

Noooo!! My favorite team is out of the game! Sent packing based on semantics, no less, if you ask me. "Mimicking" versus "mirroring"? Seriously? And after Nate aped Mario's strategy, stole his ladies and only narrowly beat him. Talk about mirroring!Mario and Nadia competed well together, encouraged and supported each other, and had a mutual respect. They got along so well, evidenced in the end by their tearful and sweet farewell. Goodbye, Team Mario-Nadia. Alas, that leaves three teams, as well...
