Premise: New York's finest make for one of sitcom's finest in this Emmy-winning ensemble show. The series was set in the 12th Precinct in Greenwich Village, where a vibe of sometimes edgy, sometimes joyous but always entertaining claustrophobia ruled. Hal Linden's title character, like Andy Griffith's Andy Taylor and Judd Hirsch's Alex Rieger, played the classic straight man amid a host of eccentrics.
