Legendary University of Texas football coach Darrell Royal was inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame on April 26, 2014. A huge fan of country music and the music scene emerging in Austin in the 1970s, Coach Royal helped expand the booking of Austin City Limits and inspired the guitar pull format of several shows throughout the early decades of the program.
There would be no Austin City Limits without Willie Nelson. His performance on the show's 1974 pilot episode kicked off four decades of the award-winning series, and has culminated in over sixteen appearances (and still counting!). He represents the best of Austin and the heart and soul of Austin City Limits.
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double trouble made their ACL debut with the release of Texas Flood, showcasing Stevie's fiery guitar playing. They returned to ACL in 1989, on the heels of In Step, the strongest record of their career. The stunning performance by Double Trouble, which at this point included keyboardist Reese Wynans, and Stevie further enshrined their work in ACL's hallowed history.
ACL presents the best Latin music with Juanes and Jesse & Joy. Colombian superstar Juanes performs a high energy set of his best, while Mexico City s sibling duo Jesse & Joy sing a selection of their greatest hits.
Great voices and songs combine with Rosanne Cash and Brandi Carlile. Cash presents tunes from her C&W tribute album The List. Brandi Carlile follows with genre-spanning tunes from Give Up the Ghost. 8/10/2013
