I heard that WB was going to ...

Question: I heard that WB was going to air its entire first season before the merge with UPN. Is there any truth to this rumor? With so little on the air this summer, reruns of the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and other classic WB shows would bring some much-needed humor to TV. Answer: A slight (but significant) correction: what WB is planning to do on its last official Sunday night, Sept. 17, is rebroadcast the first episodes of such signature series as Felicity, Angel, Buffy and Dawson's Creek. (Shows continuing on at CW were not considered for this stunt, which is why 7th Heaven and Smallville aren't on the list.) Believe me, you wouldn't want to watch WB's first season on the air, which mainly consisted of one lousy sitcom after another. Also regarding the WB/UPN-to-CW switch, Amanda asks: "What exactly will happen when WB and UPN unite? Since I already have both channels, will I have two CW channels?" Not a silly question, because this is an unprecedented situation read more

Why, on Close to Home, was ...

Question: Why, on Close to Home, was Annabeth's husband killed? What is wrong with a show that has a loving couple raising a child in a stable environment? It appears that the writers think they have to kill someone on every show for their big climax. Why not kill her baby daughter in the new opening show so she can date freely? This ending of her husband dying was also my end with this show. Answer: Not having watched this particular finale (in fact, the show is pretty much off my radar), at first I thought this was a joke. But I confirmed with an editor who's plugged into the show, and, yes, they actually killed off Annabeth's husband (Angel's Christian Kane) in the finale. I've been told the show is revamping for Year 2, and that seems obvious by this extreme (to me premature in this show's life) decision. I've gone on record defending a show's right to kill major characters, but after the carnage of the May sweeps, I can't help but agree this looks like one too many. One of the fe ... read more

I just wanted to say that I ...

Question: I just wanted to say that I nearly broke a rib laughing during last Sunday's Sopranos after the way Lauren Bacall got jacked, not to mention her subsequent reaction to it. Also, I guess I'm the only fan out there who isn't upset with the way the season is progressing. I know it's slow going right now, but a lot of good shows in the past have taken their time building up to a thrilling conclusion, like X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, etc. Answer: I am loving this season beyond measure. To me, this spring there has been all the rest of TV, and then there's The Sopranos: so much richer and more real (with, I guess, the exception of this hilarious Hollywood detour) than anything else around. The episode about Vito's gay life being exposed was truly a landmark episode, illuminating this season's theme of how everyone's life and potential have been corrupted by exposure to the Sopranos (from Vito to the poor schnook who hung himself in the premiere to pathetic Artie ... read more

Chloe is a traitor! OK, that's...

Mary Lynn Rajskub

Chloe is a traitor! OK, that's not exactly true, but 24's Mary Lynn Rajskub is consorting with the enemy, guest-starring on the May 9 season finale of WB's Gilmore Girls. The actress will play one of several singers who invade Stars Hollow hoping to get discovered after an agent taps the town's troubadour to open for Neil Young. Rajskub — who honed her crooner chops as part of the improv comedy-music group the Girls Guitar Club — called me from the Gilmore set late yesterday to chat about the Girls gig, Chloe's upcoming "romantic challenge" and her plans to take Manhattan this summer. Ausiello: I just want to point out that I interviewed you back in 2003 when you first started on 24, before Chloe became the superstar she is now.Rajskub: Th read more

I'm not sure if you can ...

Question: I'm not sure if you can answer my question, but you seem to be in the know about everything, so I thought I would give it a try. I am a really big fan of the Bravo network's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. I've noticed lately that Bravo is no longer showing the show in its regular time slot. I know that the show's ratings have slipped, and that it is not the phenomenon it once was, but its core fan base is still strong. And it's a disservice to the loyal fans who are still actively watching the show. Because honestly, the only reason I began to watch the Bravo network was because of Queer Eye. And I would hazard a guess that it is because of the Queer Eye phenomenon that many people began watching Bravo. I can hear the bells tolling for the finale of the show, and I will be sad, but I would hope Bravo at least does another season to wrap things up and give the true, steadfast fans a real chance to say goodbye to our favorite show. I can name any number of shows that I have ... read more

Here is what the Buffy/Angel alumna had to share about her present in Neptune, her possible future on Paradise Island and the thing she cannot believe she revealed to Playboy. TVGuide.com: You appear on Veronica Mars in "The Quick and the Wed" [airing tonight]. I hear that Kendall makes some sort of offer to Aaron Echolls?Charisma Carpenter: Yes, I do have a nice offer for Aaron — a piece. BonesSo I had to suspect that Agent Kenton was bad from the moment he walked on screen. I mean it was almost a little bit of déjà vu seeing David Boreanaz and Adam Baldwin together again. Except this time around, things didn't end quite so badly for David B. Booth, who was actually able to stop the bad guy from killing Brennan, instead of fighting off a seemingly insurmountable flock of demons from hell in an attempt to save the world. But I digress to the good old days of Angel, when I'm really supposed to talk about how delighted I am for an exciting episode of Bones in its nice new time slot. Brennan nearly gets whacked by the mob, she and Booth dance and sing to Foreigner's "Hot Blooded," there are some really grody-lookin read more

Close to Home was not among ...

Question: Close to Home was not among the shows that CBS recently announced it would be renewing. What do you think its chances are of coming back? And why do they waste the brilliant, extremely talented (not to mention very handsome) Christian Kane with just one or two very brief appearances? He should suit up, become Lindsey McDonald again and challenge Annabeth in court! Answer: Oh, an Angel fan, are you? Maybe they could give him a twin brother who's a litigator and your wish could come true. But I wouldn't count on it. As for Close to Home's nonrenewal: That's probably more of a case of CBS already renewing so many hours for next season that it's just leaving its options open in case any of the hours in development look especially promising. Close to Home was not a breakout when it aired on Tuesdays, and it has fared somewhat better in its hammock on Friday between Ghost Whisperer and the night's best show, Numbers. But if CBS finds a new show for next season that it considers a ... read more
