Discovery Channel is getting into the scripted business with a new series about the Old West from Robert Redford.

Announced as part of Thursday's Discovery Communications upfront presentation, the network is launching The West, a series spanning 40 years between the end of the Civil War and after the turn of the 20th century. The series, from Redford's Sundance Productions and Stephen David Entertainment, will feature famous characters from American History, including Jesse James, Wyatt Earp and Buffalo Bill.

Amish Mafia star John Schmucker was sentenced to three months in prison Friday after his 10th offense of driving with a suspended license, according to Lancaster Online. Schmucker, 29, was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.

Amish Mafia Star Receives Prison Sentence

Amish Mafia cast member Alan Beiler has been sentenced to several months in prison, according to The Associated Press.

Beiler, 35, was sentenced in the Perry County, Pa. court to three to 23 months in prison for leading police on a chase that injured a state trooper. According to police, after trying to stop Beiler for an expired car registration, he drove against traffic which lead to a pursuit that caused the state trooper to crash and get a concussion. read more
