After some chit-chat, the girls get a Tyra mail that says, "Sometimes you only have a minute to make a second impression." This not so cryptic message ends up being a one-on-one make-up lesson from renowned make-up artist, Sam Fine. He teaches them the importance of being able to do their own make-up for casting calls, and also how to do a great job quickly for last minute auditions.

America's Next Top Model begins with the girls learning how to perfect their signature walk. Ms. J and her mini-me, nine year old Diva Davanna (who has walked in over 200 fashion shows), show off their fierceness. This stunt is meant to prove that if you are vertically challenged, you can still walk tall.

The 13th edition of the series begins with 32 would-be models---all standing 5-foot-7 or under, a first for the competition. The number is quickly reduced to 14, with the remaining contestants receiving makeovers and moving into a plush Los Angeles home. The first photo shoot involves putting a twist on baby pictures.
