Are you ready for some makeovers? On this week's
Top Model, the girls undergo the much awaited transformations where hair is dyed, chopped and woven, all while tears are being shed.
The models arrive home to find Tyra sitting the living room handing out tiaras (none as big as Queen Tyra's of course) as she announces that it's time for makeovers. Just as we are about to get the rundown on who's getting what, Tyra and the Jays bust out in their stellar acting skills yet again to reenact the
Snow White poison apple scene. And after all the hoopla, we learn Tyra is just far too faint from that poison apple to tell the girls their hair fate before hand. Actually - for even more a twist this cycle, the mirrors in the salon are covered, so even the girls don't even get to know what's going on until all is said and done. The audience, on the other hand, is lucky enough to get the play-by-play from Tyra posing as the "Mirror Mirror on the Wall" mystical being.
The makeovers begin with Marjorie who becomes a brunette - a definite improvement. Joslyn gets long wavy extensions along with Isis and Britney. All nice, but nothing worth writing home about. McKey gets a short, black 'do which looks good when photographed, and Lauren goes platinum blonde with waves (again nothing too drastic). Sheena gets some highlights which work well for her, while Hannah gets a chin-length with bangs which is pretty cute. As far as a night-and-day change, Clark trades her pretty blonde hair in brunette, and no matter how hard I try look at it from the judges perspective, I really don't find it flattering on her. Samantha sheds some tears as she watches her long hair get chopped. Her transformation is by far my favorite. And for the for first time in
Top Model history, Tyra forces Elina to come out of her comfort zone by giving her thick, curly, red hair. As expected, she is freaked out beyond belief and can't handle the fact she no longer looks like herself. But ultimately, she begins to grow fond of her new look (as did I).
For this week's challenge, the girls hit up Wal*Mart for their first CoverGirl challenge where they are asked to put the make-up on, and sell it on camera - sans script, that is. The only memorable moments for this challenge were when Marjorie called it Walgreens instead of Wal*Mart and when the judge said Analeigh was "hoodrat." The winner is Hannah who gets to have her video posted online and $1,000 to spend at the megastore. Keep an eye out for the Rollback prices!
Back at the house, there's minimal drama, and the most random argument comes about between Brittany and Elina over their moms. Brittany is attached to her mom at the hip, while Elina admits she hates her mom and never loved her. Very awkward conversation to be having with people you've known for three weeks, but that's just me. The real question is why it was included in the episode.
For their shoot, the girls pose in Susan Holmes swimwear while being photographed on the beach by the same photog that snapped Tyra's famed
Sports Illustrated cover shot, Russell James. And just to make things even more nerve-wracking for the girls, Jay announces Susan and Russell will be directing the shoot instead of himself. I have to say, they were much less entertaining than Jay and his critique.
Analeigh struggled to look comfortable and her picture did nothing for the judges. I personally liked Sheena's shot a lot despite the fact it was "soft" again. Clark just doesn't look pretty in her pictures all around in my opinion, but the judges were good with her shot. Marjorie looked super high-fashion - especially with the new color. Elina had a really good shot, and it probably helped that she's now learned how to embrace her new look. Samantha took a really good pic (I'm obsessed with her haircut), as did Lauren (who in that picture reminds me of Kendra in
Girls Next Door). Isis looks pretty good in her pic despite the judges critique of her "sleepy" eyes considering the nerves she must have been feeling to do a swimsuit shoot. Brittney looks fairly apathetic in her frame, and Joslyn really sold the red bathing suit she was wearing. The bottom two are Analeigh and Brittney, but the girl who is sent packing isBrittney.
What did you think of the judges' decision and the makeovers. Personally, I was kind of meh on the episode beyond the makeover part. But again, I don't think the changes were drastic enough. The few that were, though, really came out amazing (minus Clark). Of all the pics I'd have to say I liked Lauren's and Marjorie's the best, and I was fine with Brittney getting sent home. What's your take?
