It's been a long summer being teased every weekend by marathons of
America's Next Top Model on VH1 and MTV (not to mention some lame attempts to re-create the success of the original with British and Australian versions of the show). But fear not, because the moment we've all been waiting for has finally arrived. Tyra and Co. are back with a whole new cycle of wannabes vying for the title of America's Next Top Model.
Last season the show kicked things off by sending the semifinalists to model boot camp. This season even the semifinalists got a taste of the sweet life when everyone was invited by Tyra to board a cruise ship headed to the Caribbean with cruise director Miss J. It didn't take long for the claws to come out as the potentials starting sizing up their competition and using every opportunity to get ahead. As one girl started feeling a bit seasick (and some of the nicer girls came to her aid), others saw this as one less threat standing in their way. It wasn't even a full day into the trip before accusations of anorexia began to fly and the tears began to fall. While I do sympathize for some of these girls and the awful things they've overcome in their lives, it seems like everyone had some sob story that they hoped would get the judges to rally behind them. Don't get me wrong, I do have a heart, I just think some of these stories should be saved for a therapist and not revealed in an attempt to win a spot in the finals on a reality-TV show.
Once the ship docked in St. Johns, the girls met up with last season's winner, Jaslene, and it wasn't long before the first photo shoot got under way. Things were kept pretty simple in the photo shoot as the girls got into their swimsuits and posed in the water. After observing how the girls performed in the shoot, Mr. and Miss J were ready to make the first cut... dropping 10 girls out of the competition. Not too long after the initial cuts, it was time for the Js to deliberate with Tyra and decide who the 13 lucky ladies making it into this season's house would be.
Mila, Bianca, Jenah, Chantal, Ambreal, Victoria, Sarah, Saleisha, Kimberly, Ebony, Janet, Heather and Lisa.
So there ya have it, folks! The newest group of Tyra's top models. I would have liked to see Marvita in the competition. (I was diggin' that hair!) I also liked the Boston bartender, although she didn't really have a shot. I'm not liking Ebony's arrogance, and I really don't see anything special about Mila. I have to choose Victoria, Ambreal and Saleisha as my early favorites. I hope everyone's psyched for another season of nonstop drama complete with tear-inducing makeovers, catfights, and the inevitible cameo of everyone's favorite original supermodel, Janice Dickinson! Thoughts?
