World Cup 2010

World Cup Soccer
1:30/12:30c ABC
So, Lakers-Celtics and Yankees-Mets are considered great sports rivalries? They can't produce a tenth of the emotion invested in the opening round-robin match in Group C in South Africa. Welcome to the Rumble in Rustenburg: England. Versus. United States. A loss will hardly destroy either side's bid to reach the round of 16, but to see, hear and feel the reaction to an American upset on both sides of the Atlantic is oh-so-tantalizing. Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey and goalkeeper Tim Howard lead the internationally seasoned Yanks against England's scoring powder keg of Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard. Questions dog both defenses, and one lapse is all it takes to shake the foundation of soccer — or football, if that's your cup of tea.

John Walsh is at the Charlotte Motor Speedway tonight, but it's not NASCAR night on Fox: Walsh is honoring 2010's "AMW All-Stars" — heroic police officers, firefighters and EMTs. The winner: Winston-Salem, N.C., police officer Daniel Clark, who responded to a domestic disturbance at a restaurant last October that spun out of control when an assailant opened fire. Clark was shot twice (once in the head), but managed to kill the shooter. Tragically, Clark's partner, Sgt. Mickey Hutchens, was killed.

Preakness 2010

The Preakness
4:30/3:30c NBC
Not unlike middle sister Jan Brady, the second jewel in horse racing's Triple Crown is a bit attention-starved as the bridge from historic Churchill Downs to the big-city, big-event feel of the Belmont Stakes. The too-short, two-week turnaround following the Kentucky Derby annually leads to just a handful of Derby horses also entering the Pimlico starting gate in Baltimore, making life that much easier for the Derby winner. Super Saver is this year's Triple Crown candidate, with jockey Calvin Borel gunning for his second straight Preakness win after guiding fabulous filly Rachel Alexandra to victory last year. Paddy O'Prado (third), Lookin at Lucky (sixth) and Dublin (seventh), one of two entries trained by five-time Preakness winner D. Wayne Lukas, headline the Derby holdovers.

New Evidence May Link Jeffrey Dahmer to Adam Walsh Murder

Almost 30 years after the murder of the son of America's Most Wanted host John Walsh, new evidence shows that infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer may have killed the 6-year-old boy, an investigation by The Miami Herald suggests.

While there are many good ways for mothers and sons to bond, stealing a cake together from a bakery is not at the top of that list. Yet tonight a mom-and-son burglary duo are nabbed in San Diego for doing just that. And while busting two suspects is good, busting three is even better: Police in Harris County, Texas, conduct a suspicious-person investigation that leads to a triple arrest for possession.

Bode Miller

Winter Olympics
8/7c NBC
Sequins and spandex and boas, oh my! Figure skating's medal winners hit the ice with a sense of satisfaction (and without pressure) in the traditional Champions Gala, a star-studded finale in Vancouver. Still trying to get some satisfaction are Steve Holcomb and his four-man bobsled team, sliding for the first U.S. gold medal since 1948. "We weren't the 'U.S.' team headed into Torino," he says. "It has been an easier and happier ride this season." His main opposition includes Germany's Andre Lange, who piloted both the two and four-man sleds to gold in 2006. Over on the ski slopes, Ted Ligety and Bode Miller are the American hopes in the slalom, an event in which the U.S. has won only a single gold medal (Phil Mahre, 1984). And snowboarding competition concludes with the men's parallel giant slalom, one of host nation Canada's strongest events. Also today are the men's and women's speedskating pursuit finals (NBC this afternoon), and the men's curling final (CNBC this evening).

Crimes against children have always been a particular focus on America's Most Wanted, and its 23rd season opens with the searchlight out for two suspected Texas predators. One, a Honduran-born woman named Berny Figueroa, is charged with killing a 2-year-old Brenham, Texas, girl she was babysitting in March 2008. The other case is much older: the 1990 abduction and sexual assault of an 8-year-old. Thankfully, victim Jennifer Schuett lived to tell about it, and she joins Walsh to do so tonight.

Carly and her pals want to go to a mixed-martial-arts fight, but they must sneak out of her place to do that. To aid them in this endeavor, they resort to using look-alikes that will fool Spencer into thinking they're all still home. Hardly a foolproof plan, but it just may work since Spencer is a little preoccupied building an enormous version of Newton Balls. — Jennifer Sankowski

Premise: Criminals get publicity they don't want in this long-running series, which has been responsible for more than 1100 captures and was an anchor of Fox's Saturday-night lineup for almost a quarter-century before moving to Lifetime in December 2011. It features re-creations of crimes and interviews with law-enforcement personnel, and there's a number for viewers to call with leads. Host John Walsh got involved in fighting crime after his 6-year-old son, Adam, was murdered in 1981.
