Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, The Office creators, send Karl Pilkington to sites across the world in this offbeat series. What sets this apart from other travelogues? Karl is truly a stranger in a strange land as his cohorts don't tell him where he's going or what to expect while cameras capture his off-the-cuff reactions. In the debut, we get a look at what to expect from the series, which is followed by Karl's trip to China at 10/9c. — Michael Chant

Police Call Ronni Chasen Slaying a Robbery Gone Bad

Ronni Chasen

Publicist Ronni Chasen was slain by an ex-con who acted alone and shot her from a bicycle, police said, calling the killing "a robbery gone bad" — not a professional hit.

Police were able to link Chase's shooting to ex-convict Harold Smith after a ballistics report found that Smith's gun matched the firearm used on Chasen, Beverly Hills, Calif., police Chief David Snowden said at a news conference Wednesday.

Smith was a person of interest in the case. When police tried to serve a search warrant at his Hollywood hotel on Dec. 1, he shot... read more

Hot off the heels of last week's host, Scarlett Johansson, comes another solid film actress taking on hosting duties. Moviegoers of a certain age will certainly remember Peter Sellers as bumbling Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther movies (Steve Martin revived the role in recent years). The "pink panther" was a diamond that kept getting stolen, so it's no surprise that a hugely successful gang of real international jewel thieves have been dubbed "the Pink Panthers." But these guys — alleged to be veterans of the 1990s mayhem in the Balkans — are no bunglers: Estimates of their total haul begin at over $100 million. John Walsh joins Interpol in the hunt for them tonight. — Paul Droesch

A 16-year-old named Kimberly Simon was raped and murdered in Oneida County, N.Y., in 1985. Steven Barnes of nearby Marcy, who was 19 at the time, was convicted of the crime in 1989. But it was never an open-and-shut case, and it's definitely an open one now: Barnes was released from prison in 2008 after DNA testing proved that he couldn't have done it, and cops haven't charged anyone else yet, but they think the killer(s) might have been involved in a satanic cult. Host John Walsh gives an update on their new hunt tonight. — Paul Droesch

The Suze Orman Show

Suze Orman Show
9/8c CNBC
Suze dishes family-focused financial advice in an all-viewer call edition. Among the cases she adjudicates is a flip-flop of an ordinary complaint: Instead of a parent seeking to be financially free from a grown child, this time it's a son who sees his mom as the burden. Orman also deals with the matter of a dad who's backtracked from doling out the wedding cash he vowed to give his offspring and, in the "Can I Afford It?" segment, a look at whether buying a $100,000 Jaguar is a smart move.
