One of PBS's most distinguished series, mounting superb dramas and musicals by the likes of (to name just a few) Eugene O'Neill, John Cheever, Lanford Wilson, Mark Twain, Thornton Wilder, James Baldwin and Stephen Sondheim. Perhaps the most memorable (and controversial) presentation: `Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City,' which won a Peabody Award.

The Trial of Bernhard Goetz

Using actual courtroom testimony, actors re-create "The Trial of Bernhard Goetz," which took place in 1987. While riding a New York subway, Goetz shot four black youths after one "asked" him for $5. Goetz: Peter Crombie. Judge Crane: Dann Florek. Defense Attorney Slotnick: Richard Libertini. Assistant DA Waples: Andrew Robinson. James Ramseur: Larry B. Scott.
