American Idol Episode Recap: Top 8 Revealed Season 8, Episode 25

After another evening of lackluster performances by many of our Idol hopefuls, will one more contestant be sent home, or will the judges have mercy on the lowest ranked singer? We'll find out after performances from Lady Gaga and last season's American Idol winner, David Cook.

Hey everyone! I was thinking about something today: I don't know about you guys, but I'd be pretty pissed if I scored tickets to a "live" taping of an Idol results show and all I got were two pre-taped performances, a pre-taped product placement video and a really poorly lip synched group number. Amiright? It makes me appreciate the fact that I'm recapping from home in my pajamas while eating some mint chip ice cream.

After a dizzying Ford music video, the Top 9 lip-synch Journey's anthem, "Don't Stop Believing." Is it me, or is it like, completely sacrilegious (musically speaking, of course) to lip-synch Journey?! It's just wrong! Even more wrong? They stick poor Scott behind a keyboard to play some fake music! Scott sings his "solo" so far from the microphone, it's just painful to watch. At least Gokey tries to hide his lip-synching behind his mic. And Adam, you just made me stop believing. Please stop tonguing the microphone when you fake sing. Ew.

Next, they show us a little video about life as an Idol, complete with crazy schedules, photo and video shoots, rehearsals, interviews, red-carpet events, etc. It looks like a lot of fun, but completely exhausting. I actually think this is a pretty cute video and gives us a little more info about the Idols' personalities. They all genuinely seem to like each other. Once we're back on stage, they spend a few minutes doing impressions of each other — all in good fun, of course. Oh, why won't they make my night and do one of Simon, Paula or Ryan? Pretty please?

The Results — Part One
They make Megan, Chris and Matt walk onto the left side of the stage; Lil, Adam and Allison take center stage; Scott, Anoop and Danny are on the right side of the stage. Then we go to a commercial.

David Cook Performs
Aw, Cookie is back! He's singing his new single, "Come Back to Me," and is looking fine (I'm going to ignore the dorky chain thing on his jacket). When I watch him sing these songs, it's clear to me that there was no other choice for the Idol champ last season. Archie singing "Crush" just wouldn't do it for me. They then present David with a fancy, framed platinum record for his first post-Idol album, and he gets teary-eyed! Love him!

The Results — Part Two
They cut to the chase, sorta, and Megan, Allison (WTF!) and Anoop end up in the bottom three. There's only one way this story should end, and that's bye-bye Megan Joy. I'll miss her kooky antics (did you see her flap her arms like a bird on the way to the stool?).

Lady Gaga
I told you that I'm square with music, right? I have no idea who this Gaga chick is, but she seems to enjoy fashion that makes her look like a drag queen from outer space. She's clearly quite a force on stage and immensely talented, but it's just not my bag, baby. Watch, the song will get stuck in my head and I'll become the biggest Gaga fan in the world.

The Results — Part Three
Allison, thank goodness, is safe. Anoop is safe, and Megan doesn't even get to sing for her life. Simon is a total ass and says, "Since you don't care, neither do we." He tells her he doesn't want to pretend that the judges will save her. She's completely gracious and has a really fun time singing her swan song. Good for her.

Next week, the contestants take on songs from the year they were born. Good times!

Did you think it was Megan's time to go?

Premise: The smash reality series showcases wannabe pop stars competing for a record deal by crooning for a panel of judges, including, most entertainingly, the acid-tongued Simon Cowell, who departed the show in 2010 after serving for nine seasons. The judges review a performer's talent (or lack thereof), and at-home viewers then vote for their favorite potential star. The show helped launch the careers of such artists as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert.
