Three more stools have been added on stage for the next performers who will move on to the Top 12 on American Idol. After some disastrous song choices and shaky performances, who did America vote through to the next round?
So, have we all recovered from the embarrassment and horror of last night? Horror sounds a bit dramatic, but I cannot get over how awful the song choices were. I think my dog hid in her crate during a few numbers. And the phrase "jump the shark" was uttered more than once in our office when discussing the performance of one Nick Mitchell/Norman Gentle.
It's interesting to me that there were much better women than men this week. It's seems that that extra spot will most likely go to a woman, unlike last week. There are at least three girls who deserve to make it to the next round: Allison really impressed me with her huge, controlled vocals, Megan and Jesse are both different and funky and I loved the tone of Mishavonna's voice. Of course, Jasmine is great and commercial, but she really blew it with her version of "Love Song."
Before we begin with the eliminations, Ryan shows us a little montage of the group's journey to this point of the competition. Then, we get a much better group performance than last week, with the Idols singing Ne-Yo's "Closer." This group actually sounds fantastic together... kind of a bummer to see them get split up tonight.
Your Next Three Finalists Revealed
Ryan calls Matt, Jesse and Allison down to the stage with him. He asks Randy who should make it through, and he says his choice is Allison. His wish comes true: Allison Iraheta is now in the top 12! As she sings "Alone" again, I can't help but smile. This girl is 16 years old and she's giving me massive goosebumps! Everyone — including her fellow contestants, the judges and audience — is rocking out with her. Maybe it's my pregnant hormones, but I'm a little choked up by her awesomeness. OK, it's completely my hormones.
Next up on the chopping block are Megan, Kris, Matt and Jeanine. Ryan asks Paula who she thinks should make it through, but she's torn between Kris, Matt and Megan. After Jeanine and Matt are eliminated right away (and Kara and Simon get into a catfight), Kris Allen is chosen for the Top 12! Wow, I'm actually quite shocked. I thought Megan would make it through, based on the judges' enthusiastic support of her on Wednesday.
Before our last finalist is chosen, we get a visit from last season's sweetie pie, Brooke White. She performs her new single (available on iTunes) called, "Hold Up My Heart." Brooke, much like Carly and Michael last week, sounds wonderful. However, the lyrics are so cheesetastic, I can't help but cringe a little. I love that she's sweet, but I wish her music had a little more edge to it. P.S. Check out our recent interview with Brooke, who says she wouldn't have made it on Idol this season.
Ryan invites Mishavonna, Kai, Nick, Jasmine and Adam on stage. Mishavonna, Jasmine and Kai are dismissed immediately (tear for Kai!), which leaves Nick and Adam. Are you freakin' kidding me? Nick is still there? Wait, why am I surprised at all? The producers love to torture us like this. But America comes through and votes for Adam Lambert instead of Nick. I was wrong: two dudes and a girl have made it to the next level again this week. This annoys me greatly. I would have preferred Megan or Jesse make it through instead of Adam. He's talented, but he bugs me. Perhaps they'll give Megan a wild card spot.
