American Idol: A Final Four Shocker Season 11, Episode 34

Here we go, guys! Tonight we will determine a final four, and you know what else we'll do? Watch a whole lot of nothing, because it clearly does not require 60 minutes to eliminate only one person.

But first... Joshua is safe. Not a huge surprise after last night.

Then we are tortured with another damn Ford commercial, which I refuse to waste more than one sentence speaking about. It's a good thing Coldplay came to save the day, in all their glow-in-the-dark graffiti glory. Not exactly how I picture "Paradise," (mine is more "cocktails and palm trees" and less "underground street art"), but they're Coldplay, so they can do whatever they want.

Phillip and Hollie find out their fate next. Despite Hollie's unusually strong performances last night, she is sent to the bottom two. Phillip is safe.

Carrie Underwood performs next, which was, like, so nice of her considering she was heading straight to her wedding from the Idol stage. Love Carrie and everything, but can you say "overproduced?" Between the debris and confetti and smoke and all kinds of sh-- flying across the stage, I could barely concentrate. I also don't think she sounded that spectacular. Do I stand alone?

Jessica and Skylar are left, and we know one of them will be in the bottom with Hollie. Based on the feedback, we're lead to believe it will be Jessica. But in fact, it is Skylar.

The debris theme continues with Coldplay's second performance, the theater filling with colored post-it notes. Things got so intense up there, Chris Martin looked like he was about to pass out by the end, but they were awesome, so it would have been worth it.

And now for the elimination: SKYLAR is going home. By the look on the judges' faces, they seem to be in shock. Skylar keeps her composure, and delivers an energetic (given the circumstances) rendition of Miranda Lambert's "Gunpowder and Lead."

Were you surprised by tonight's elimination? Do you think Hollie deserved to go home? Who do you think will win the competition? Vote in our poll below!

Premise: The smash reality series showcases wannabe pop stars competing for a record deal by crooning for a panel of judges, including, most entertainingly, the acid-tongued Simon Cowell, who departed the show in 2010 after serving for nine seasons. The judges review a performer's talent (or lack thereof), and at-home viewers then vote for their favorite potential star. The show helped launch the careers of such artists as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert.
