American Idol Auditions 3: On An Aircraft Carrier For No Apparent Reason Season 11, Episode 3

Congratulations to you for hanging in there and watching the (hour-delayed) San Diego auditions episode tonight — you're a real hardcore American Idol enthusiast.

We're auditioning tonight on the deck of an aircraft carrier because — well, I'm not exactly sure why, to be honest.

Here's who's going to Hollywood from San Diego: Sweet and spunky Ashley Robles who nailed Whitney's "I Will Always Love You," followed by singer/songwriter/human beatbox and man without a "B plan" Jayrah Gibson. (Randy called him "mad, mad good.") Aubree Dieckmeyer will head to Hollywood, too, even though she wasn't sure if she was auditioning for America's Next Top Model, or American Idol. Regardless, she had an awesomely unique sound, and the perfect pop-star look. Never-been-kissed Ellen DeGeneres fan Ali Shields wows the judges by rapping "Look At Me Now," and then serenading them with Corinne Bailey Rae. Frat bro/unlikely lady's man Kyle Crews makes an unexpected song choice (Monica's "Angel of Mine") and Steven says it's the best male voice they've heard yet. Jane Carrey, the mom/waitress (also: Jim Carrey's daughter) auditions, and everyone in America wonders why her dad couldn't have just gotten her signed with a record label years ago. And finally, guitar strummin' Jason Hamlin, who, for some reason goes by "Wolf," lands a coveted spot in Hollywood.

Who was your favorite on board the aircraft carrier, and who do you think should fly back to where they came from? Let us know in the comments below!

Premise: The smash reality series showcases wannabe pop stars competing for a record deal by crooning for a panel of judges, including, most entertainingly, the acid-tongued Simon Cowell, who departed the show in 2010 after serving for nine seasons. The judges review a performer's talent (or lack thereof), and at-home viewers then vote for their favorite potential star. The show helped launch the careers of such artists as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert.
