American Idol Results: A Performance By "Lauren Alaina" and an Elimination We Didn't Expect Season 11, Episode 18

We start out the night with a Stevie Wonder group number, because we didn't get our fill of Stevie last night. In general, it was a pretty tragic performance. The boys sounded terrible, Erika was wearing leopard pajamas, Skylar looked like Rachel Dratch's doppleganger, and the choreography was sophomoric at best.

I'm going to try to be positive from here on out — I swear! But not until we acknowledge how cheesy that Ford-sponsored music video commercial was. Right?

We start out with Hollie, Jessica and Elise and shocker! Jessica is safe. Hollie is safe. Elise: bottom three girls. She takes her seat on the losers bench.

Colton is safe. Heejun is safe. Jermaine: losers bench.

Next up, Seacrest claims that last season's runner-up, Lauren Alaina will take the stage, but I'm 100 percent positive this girl performing is definitely not Lauren Alaina. It's like... Brooke Hogan on a good day. Or maybe one of Hugh Hefner's girlfriends? Not at all sweet little Lauren Alaina. Anyway, this Hogan/Playmate girl sings a country song and it's pretty catchy.

Skylar is safe. Erika and Shannon — both in jeopardy of going home.

Phillip is safe, as is Deandre — while Jeremy and Joshua (say whaaa?!) are in the bottom three.

But then Seacrest pulls a CRAZY Seacrest move and spontaneously pulls Erika and Joshua off the losers bench! They are safe! A crazy little man, that Seacrest.

Now it's Mary J. Blige's time to perform, and this woman, I'm fairly certain, is actually Mary J. Blige.

But back to the elimination — Jeremy, Jermaine, Elise and Shannon are the bottom four performers. Seacrest then narrows it down to two: Jeremy and Elise.

And in a shocking turn of events, J. Lo announces that they've opted to save Elise! I'm sure she was out-voted by Steven and Randy. Jeremy was her boy. In any case, I think tonight played out fairly. Do you?

Premise: The smash reality series showcases wannabe pop stars competing for a record deal by crooning for a panel of judges, including, most entertainingly, the acid-tongued Simon Cowell, who departed the show in 2010 after serving for nine seasons. The judges review a performer's talent (or lack thereof), and at-home viewers then vote for their favorite potential star. The show helped launch the careers of such artists as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert.
