American Idol Episode Recap: Top 2 Revealed Season 10, Episode 37

After 95 million votes, the most in an Idol non-finale episode, we're down to the Top 3. Ryan Seacrest tells us that last week the remaining four, James, Haley, Scotty and Lauren, went over to meet J.J. Abrams at his production company, Bad Robot. In his screening room the contestants, and now us, get to see a few clips from Abrams' upcoming film Super 8. Back on stage, Ryan introduces star Elle Fanning and puts her on the spot by asking who her favorite it. Ducking out of the question, she instead tells us how her cousin has been a fan of Scotty from Day 1.

After last week's elimination, it's time to take a private jet to the hometowns. First up is Haley as she heads to rainy Chicago. Despite the bad weather in Wheeling, tons of fans show up to see her. Haley gets an assembly at her high school and sheds quite a few tears while saying a few words.

After the music video of the week, where the contestants are armed with lots of flip cams and the girls look lovingly at Scotty, Il Volo performs. A talented group of guys, one with awesome red glasses.

Next up is Scotty's hometown of Garner, N.C. There are a ton of fans surrounding the radio station where he's doing his interview and you can tell why this guy gets so many votes each week.  Scotty heads home, lays on his bed, and we see a flashback to him packing for Hollywood week where he looks so young! Has he grown up on Idol before our eyes?

Nicole Scherzinger hits the Idol stage and performs "Right There" featuring 50 Cent. Pretty standard (aka average) song.

Lauren Alaina heads to Chattanooga, Tenn., where they've even named May 14 Lauren Alaina Day. She must feel special! Lauren has a bit of somber moment as well when she sees how hard the recent storms have hit. She has a special meeting with a boy named Tyler who saved his family from the storms' devastation.

As the hour is almost up, it's time for the final two to be revealed. Scotty is named a finalist first. I'm not surprised in the least. Joining him for next week's finale will be... Lauren! I have to admit I was hoping it would be Haley, who looks quite pissed and shocked she didn't make it. She takes a breath and tells the audience that she rocked it out, had a blast, and it's only the beginning. I couldn't agree more.

Are you happy with the Top 2?

Premise: The smash reality series showcases wannabe pop stars competing for a record deal by crooning for a panel of judges, including, most entertainingly, the acid-tongued Simon Cowell, who departed the show in 2010 after serving for nine seasons. The judges review a performer's talent (or lack thereof), and at-home viewers then vote for their favorite potential star. The show helped launch the careers of such artists as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert.
