In the series' pilot, it's November 1963, and Jack Pryor (Tom Verica) pretty much has it all: a house with a yard his five kids can play in; his ownTV store; and two weeks at the Jersey shore each summer. But son J.J. (Will Estes) doesn't want to play football for East Catholic High anymore (he'd lose a Notre Dame scholarship if he quits). And his wife, Helen (Gail O'Grady), doesn't want more children. Meanwhile, daughter Meg (Brittany Snow) wants desperately to dance on “American Bandstand.”
