It has a good beat, and you can dance to it. Kids did indeed dance to this pop-culture institution featuring rock-and-roll stars performing their hits (lip-synching them, anyway). Then Dick Clark played records, which the studio kids danced to and rated. `Bandstand' bowed in Philadelphia in 1952 and went national (on ABC) in 1957.
