Premise: Directing herself in this quirky drama, Kathy Bates is a joy to watch as she is both amusing and charming in the role of an anxiety-ridden author who experiences a “midlife event,” then attempts to take control of her life by becoming an EMT. As she emerges a changed and better person in the process, her 33-year marriage to her writing partner (Robin Thomas) is in danger of falling apart. Pete: Gordon Pinsent.
