Variety reports that Jenny McCarthy and Ivan Sergei (Charmed) will star in the ABC Family original movie Mary Christmas. McCarthy will play Santa's ambitious businesswoman daughter and, hopefully, wear one of those cute "naughty elf" costumes at some point.... Lifetime Television has tapped All My Children alumna Abigail Spencer — one of the nicest gals you could ever meet and a hottie in her own right — for the lead in Emily's Eyes, a procedural about an FBI agent seeking to right the wrongs of her treasonous CIA-operative parents. Thus far ordered for 13 episodes, Emily's Eyes could premiere as early as this summer. read more

Word is, All My Children is recasting...

Word is, All My Children is recasting Adam and Liza's daughter, Colby, as well as Palmer and Opal's son, Petey. Both characters are currently away from Pine Valley. They'll come home SORASed — that's short for Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome — into randy teenagers, just in time for summer. An AMC rep had "no comment." read more

This week's All My Children explosion will claim at least one casualty: corporate titan Ethan Ramsey Cambias, played by the handsomest man in the northern hemisphere, James Scott. FYI: Although Ethan will breathe his last on Monday, Feb. 24, word is Scott will continue to air on AMC either in ghostly visitations, fantasies or flashbacks. All of soapdom was buzzing on Wednesday when the Daytime Emmy nominations were announced. Here's how your sudsy faves reacted to all the big news....

First-time nominee Renee Goldsberry (Evangeline) had a mixed reaction to being One Life to Live's lone acting anointee. "It's bittersweet because I saw some great work on my show last year," the supporting-actress contender told TVGuide.com. "I don't want to single anybody out, but I can't help it: Bree [Williamson, Jess/Tess], I thought was absolutely wonderful, [as were] John-Paul [Lavoisier, Rex], Robin Strasser (Dorian)... I also thought that Tari [Signor, Margaret], who was [pre]nominated in [my] category, was really, really great. DAYTIME DRAMA

An explosive plot twist turned into a real-life one on the set of All My Children on Thursday afternoon. Per the New York Daily News, the sudser was staging a deadly masquerade-ball explosion when a special-effects mishap injured four stunt people, all of whom "are expected to make a swift recovery," said ABC in a statement. The exact nature of the incendiary incident was not revealed, but it's said to have been sparked by the cracklin' and undying chemistry between Tad and Marian. read more

Premise: The soap that introduced Erica Kane and her many husbands to the masses launched on Jan. 5, 1970, and won a number of Best Drama Emmys along the way. Set in Pine Valley, a fictional East Coast burb, `AMC' was created by the prolific Agnes Nixon and has been a soap with a social conscience, tackling issues like addiction, abortion and homosexuality. In fact, it featured daytime's first lesbian kiss, between Erica's daughter Bianca and con woman Lena Kundera, who later stole her heart.
