Michael Vartan
Another medical drama, you say? Michael Vartan promises that TNT's HawthoRNe (premiering Tuesday at 9 pm/ET) offers something different.
"There are a lot of medical series out there," the Alias alum acknowledges in his TVGuide.com video Q&A. "But never has one told the story from the nurses' perspective."
TNT's new drama stars Jada Pinkett Smith as chief nurse Christina Hawthorne and Vartan as Tom Wakefield, the chief of surgery with whom she will butt heads, again and again. Vartan, though, couldn't ask for a livelier scene partner.
"She's amazing," he raves of Pinkett Smith, who also serves as an executive producer. "I really trust her creative vision."
Also in this on-camera sit-down ...

David Anders with Marsha Thomason, Into the Blue 2
In Into the Blue 2: The Reef, a made-for-unrated-DVD sequel streeting this week, Laura Vandervoort (Smallville) and Chris Carmack (The O.C.) pick up where Jessica Alba and Paul Walker left off, playing young lovers whose diving business gets them into trouble as deep as the water. Alias alum David Anders, who plays a cash-flashing client with an ulterior motive, gave us a peek at the pretty-to-look-at drama.
TVGuide.com: Working alongside a bikini-clad Laura Vandervoort, Marsha Thomason and Audrina Patridge (The Hills).... How did you do it, man? Was there hazard pay?
David Anders: Yeah, it wasn't a bad deal at all! To get paid to get certified for scuba-diving, and work with all those great people... .
TVGuide.com: Then again, you did have to film this in some idyllic locale.
Anders: On Hawaii, the main island. When the offer came across last spring ...

Michael Vartan courtesy Dimension Films
Hes one of the nicest guys in Hollywood and its been biting him on the butt. But now, Alias alum Michael Vartan is getting his grit on in the ferociously entertaining Rogue as a travel writer terrorized by a monster crocodile while stranded with an Australian tour group. And trust me, this one is sharper than your average when-animals-attack flick. Damian HolbrookTVGuide.com: Based on the DVDs cover, with the giant crocodile jaws, you think were looking at another Anaconda. But this has a very Hitchcockian feel to it.Michael Vartan: Yeah, thats Greg Mclean, the director, whos such an interesting guy, such a talented, fun guy to work with. You know, something as simple as the fact that my character and Radha Mitchell [playing river tour guide Kate Ryan] never make out seconds before impending doomwhich happens in every Hollywood horror filmwere about to be eaten by a 15-foot crocodile and you still have time to make out? Jennifer Garner by Jamie McCarthy/ WireImage.com
Are the Afflecks expecting a second child? Conflicting reports have emerged, thanks in part to comments from Jennifer Garner's Alias costar, Victor Garber. The actor seemingly announced her pregnancy to Us, saying, "Yes, she is," when asked if the couple was expecting a baby.Later in the day, though, Garber said his comments had been taken out of context. "I haven't confirmed that at all, no," E! reports. "I know they want to have another child and hopefully that's true, but I don't know that." He added, "I know that they are hoping to be, I just don't know that it's for sure. It's a very...personal thing."What is confirmed is that Garner's been seen around town sporting super-baggy tops, and has previously expressed interest in having more children with Ben Affleck in addition to their daughter, Violet. All of this leaves us with the same guessing game and possibly a Jack Black-like slip from Garber. What do you think he meant? Anna Dimond

J.J. Abrams by Jim Spellman/WireImage.com
After a season rocked by a writers strike, shortened episode orders and a defecting audience, all eyes are turning to the new fall season and the hope of maybe a new hit or two reigniting the business.Id hope that this fall is a reset, says Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly, kicking off his networks portion of the TCA press tour Monday (following a performance and panel from summer smash So You Think You Can Dance; Reilly, for the record, stayed in his seat). I believe in my heart it can be, particularly if there is a couple of new exciting shows joining the lineup or maybe some of the returning shows continue to find an audience.Foxs greatest hope this fall is unquestionably J.J. Abrams big-budget, high-concept sci-fi thriller Fringe, which Reilly and boss Peter Ligouri aggressively pursued. We offered him a series day one. We knew the log line, that it was sort of The X-Files, Indiana Jones kind of thing. This show...

OK, first off, to all of you who chimed in last week. I just assumed we all accepted Dynastys Alexis Carrington as the #1 bitch of all time. That sort of stuff should just be understood from here on out. Its like, who is the #1 villain? JR Ewing. No-brainer. But this week, I offer you a real challenge. With the sort-of-unexpected monster hit-dom of Iron Man in the theatres and this weeks DVD release of the TV movies The Incredible Hulk Returns/The Trial of the Incredible Hulk, I thought it would be fun to get all you fanboys and girls to weigh in on your favorite TV superheroes. Im gonna throw some of my top picks out there (all available on DVD, natch), then I want yall to give me yours, aiight? Smallville Young Superman. The DVD sets that literally kept me from going insane during my doctor-ordered bedrest from two herniated discs. Seven seasons of Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum and a bunch of DC Comics cameos. Season Six is the bes...

Question: Thanks for the Nip/Tuck scoop in this week's vodcast. I heard a rumor that a certain Alias hunk shows a little skin in next week's episode. True?
Answer: Well, I'll say this about Bradley Cooper in the Jan. 23 episode: He's never been cheekier. Speaking of next Tuesday's ep, someone has an HIV scare, and there's a major shake-up at "Hearts & Scalpels."

Question: Just so you know, this is going to be part question, part rant. I'm getting really tired of people talking about so-called "jump the shark" moments on television series. Every time I turn around, I hear/read somebody decrying that this show or that show has jumped the shark when they apparently don't know what the term actually means. I thought the real meaning was the point at which a show has lost its creativity and resorts to cheap stunts to boost ratings. That is the definition, correct? Instead of trying to understand the term, I hear many people use the term every time a show disappoints them in any way. Some say that Alias jumped the shark in Season 2. Are they high? The show remained creative long past that point, dipping only a bit in Season 3 with the whole Mrs. Vaughn thing. But I digress. I just wish some people would shut up about things they don't fully understand. Well, thanks for listening to my little rant!
Answer: And thanks for giving me something to close
