Mike Freeman, Memphis author and Mid-South history aficionado, recently published his third book Clarence Saunders & the Founding of Piggly Wiggly: The Rise and Fall of a Memphis Maverick. In 1980 he began working for Jefferson Square at 79 Jefferson. That was the site of Saunders' first Piggly Wiggly store and that motivated Mr. Freeman to study history and write this book.
