90210 Episode Discussion: "To New Beginnings!" Season 2, Episode 1

The CW kicks off its sophomore season of 90210 this week by picking up where we left off. (To summarize: Annie called the cops on her friends' post-prom party and ended up involved in a hit-and-run.) Naomi, Silver and Adrianna bond over the summer. Annie, on the other hand, shuts out everyone in her life as she can't help but think about her accident on prom night. While hanging out at the Beverly Hills Beach Club, Naomi and Silver meet 90210 newbie Teddy (Trevor Donovan), a tennis pro and son of a movie star. Navid tries to set up a romantic night with Ade in hopes of finally losing his virginity, and a text message may force Dixon to end things with Silver for good.

The Season 2 premiere kicks off with Naomi kissing an older mystery man on the beach until Silver snaps her out of her daydream by proclaiming summer school is over. Naomi, Silver and Ade, now BFFs with matching sunglasses, arrive at the Beverly Hills Beach Club to enjoy the remainder of their summer. My, how that place has changed since Brandon schlepped there.

Through girl talk by the pool, we get caught up on what's happened since prom night: Naomi is dating Jason, a much older man whose meaty man hands put Liam's to shame. Silver is torn between Dixon and Ethan (who she's been texting with since their kiss last season). And Ade, whose hair managed to grow 6 inches over three months, wants to be "No Drama Adrianna" and start over as a normal teenager now that she's given her baby up for adoption. So she doesn't want to have sex with Navid in order to avoid the post-sex drama that goes along with it. (Too bad Navid thinks he's about to finally lose his virginity and asks Dixon for advice on planning a romantic night.) We also learn that everyone knows Annie was the one who dropped a dime on Naomi's party.  But the real doozy comes later, during the girls' tanning session, when Naomi's sees Jason... with his wife and kids. Cue Naomi's famous nostril flare.

Back home, Annie has been hiding behind her laptop since the hit-and-run and is searching for updates on the condition of the comatose John Doe she mowed down in the season finale. She tolerates some quality time with her family, but Dixon is also pissed at her because her call to the cops is the reason he and the others ended up in summer school. Next thing you know, she receives a text alert and sprints to her computer only to learn that John Doe is dead.  She jumps into Dixon's car to try to tell him about what she did, but rather than hearing her out, he assumes she's trying to come clean about sleeping with Liam. She loses it when he tells her to apologize to Naomi, and it devolves from there. Dixon doesn't even bother dropping her off before heading to the party at the Beach Club, and she winds up stranded at a party where nobody is happy to see her.

Meanwhile, Naomi is trying to get her mind off the fact that she's a mistress by focusing on Teddy, a tennis pro who's also the son of an Oscar-winning movies star. She all but drools on him at the court; Silver is characteristically droll. We learn that Teddy and Ade used to date. So, like when they were 12? Ade introduces her hunky ex to Navid who is pulling out all the stops for his special night with Ade — including breaking into a cabana. Unfortunately for him, Ade tells him she wants to wait. Navid, frustrated beyond words, agrees to remain "No Sex Navid." He's not exactly thrilled to learn Teddy was Ade's first either.

But alas, the cabana doesn't go to waste. While waiting to get a ride home, a drunk senior, Mark, approaches Annie and convinces her to get her drank on with him (though, in truth, it didn't take that much convincing). Navid tosses Mark the keys and he and Annie put the cabana to good use — if you know what I'm saying.

The owner of the cabana, who happens to be Jason's wife, makes a scene: She's none too pleased that some sexin' teens trashed her cabana and left behind a "Sex Jams" CD. But before Navid can come clean, Teddy takes one for the team by dropping his famous dad's name to undo the damage.

Dixon and Silver put their issues behind them and share a kiss on the beach. Teddy, however, somehow ends up with Silver's phone and accidentally tells Dixon about Silver's incriminating texts with Ethan about their kiss. Dixon, now fuming, calls things off with her once and for all.

It's the first day of school! Silver is faring fairly well mainly because she's convinced she'll get Dixon back. (Stalker alert!) Naomi admits she needs a new man ASAP to get over Liam. What do you know? As soon as she mentions his name, there he is, just standing there in the hall. Naomi runs away as he approaches her to talk/explain.

In the final scene, Annie pulls up next to the same Mercedes that may or may not have seen her mow down John Doe. Why, it's Teddy's car! This should be interesting. Annie bumps into her one-night-stand Mark, and he blows her off. As she slinks off, he tells his buddies that he took a pic of his cabana tryst with the principal's daughter. Somehow, Naomi gets her sweaty little paws on the pic, and we know this can only mean one thing: Payback's a bitch, and her name is Naomi.

What did you think of the Season 2 premiere of 90210? Is it weird to see Ade, Naomi and Silver as besties and Annie as the outcast? What do you think of Teddy? Are you excited for this season? Discuss!
